NRA files lawsuit over Florida gun control law

NRA files lawsuit over Florida gun control law | WPEC

    TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP)
The National Rifle Association has filed a federal lawsuit over gun control legislation Florida Gov. Rick Scott has signed, saying it violates the Second Amendment by raising the age to buy guns from 18 to 21. The lawsuit came just hours after Gov. Scott, a Republican, signed the compromise bill Friday afternoon.

Lawyers for the NRA want a federal judge to block the new age restriction from taking effect.

    ..snip..

Ofcourse they did.. typical of those God damned nra gun pushers wanting to protect their gun profits and market share by sending their lawyers to Florida to tell us how we should run our state.

Someone explain to me - or them - how a restriction for SOME guns can be legal, and go for years without a challenge in court, and once all guns are treated with that same limit, it all of a sudden goes against the 2A ?

It seems unlikely a temporary restraining order or preliminary injunction will be issued. As to whether a permanent injunction will be issued after trial ... well, it depends on the trial, and the appeals that will doubtlessly be filed thereafter.

The NRA doesn't sell guns any more than the ACLU sells newspapers.

I don't expect that lawsuit to change matters significantly. But if it does, the real danger is to the NRA from all of the Millions of parents across America who would be boiling mad that they chose to fight to keep guns in play that could hurt and even kill their children. At that point I'm sure they will all come together collectively and organize quite well against the NRA.

Anymore than AAA sells cars or the AMA fixes broken bones or the ADA fills cavities.

Is there anyone here who believes this law would have prevented Cruz from doing what he did? If he couldn't acquire a gun til 21, which isn't certain, would he have been any more right in the mind at that point or just as dangerous?

Hard to tell. But it would have served as a good deterrent to him rather than he seeing it as an unimpeded opportunity to legally purchase the weapon. Laws serve a good purpose as deterrents. Do they stop crime altogether? Unfortunately no. But those thinking of committing a crime seeing that there is a law on the books to severely punish them and even fine them on top of that may just stop to think twice before going through with the act.

Society would have three extra years to discover his dangerousness and do something about it. Average shooting deaths with AR15-24, handgun-7. Even if he'd bought a handgun, he'd have shot fewer people.
