Trump refuses to concur with British finding that Russia deployed nerve agent in U.K.

A pathetic "we stand with our ally, don't ask how" statement from the White House this morning, explicitly leaving out any ascription of guilt.

This despite confirmation from British Army chemical weapons experts that the poisoning was done with a Russian-made weapon.

I can't imagine this can go on for very long, but Trump always surprises me.

Either Putin has something on him, or Trump is afraid enough that he does to constantly tiptoe on the matter, something he does for nobody else.

I didn't see guilt assigned by the UK yet?

The official statement Prime Minister Theresa May offered in the House of Commons today, saying it was “highly likely” Russia was the perpetrator, would be immediately supported by a carefully coordinated statement by the U.S. government, as well as other important allies in an effort led by the United States.
It’s too early to say that the Trump administration will do nothing.

The Speaker of the House of Commons John Bercow used a speech in Parliament to say President Trump would not be allowed to speak there on his planned visit to the UK.

Theresa May read a statement ascribing Russia as the "highly likely" guilty party on the floor of the House of Commons, where all important British decisions ultimately must be vetted.

They are not 100 percent committed to it, but they would not do that if they were not pretty damn sure. Any sort of "IDK" shrug from the White House is stupid and dismissive of our ally.

Sadiq Khan has nothing to do with this, and the U.K. has not done anything to restrict Trump despite having several chances.

EU Commissioner, Phil Hogan, has said that President Donald Trump is not welcome in Ireland or Europe.
May announced in Parliament on Monday that investigators identified the nerve agent used as Novichok, a military-grade poison developed in Russia.

“We must now stand ready to take extensive measures,” May said.

“Should there be no credible response [from Russia], we shall conclude that this action amounts to an unlawful use of force by the Russian state against the United Kingdom,” she continued, noting that the British government will not be able to continue “business as usual” with the Kremlin.

Sounds like assigning guilt to me, with a last opening for Russia to defend themselves against the "allegation".

I know, Obama would have already drawn a red line by now.

I don't know what this is doing here, but I understand Britain just prevented three 'far-right activists' from entering their country, so on the linked thread that follows it might make sense:

Far-Right Activists Rejected at UK Border.

To be clear, Trump said chemical weapons were his red line and he bombed Syria as the Syrian gov't gassed its own people. Now that we know that the chemical weapon was only made in Russia can we expect Trump to bomb Russia? How about maybe just imposing the sanctions he was suppoe to impose almost 1 year ago and has still done ZIPPO?

Ridiculous. Trump drew a red line on North Korea — he explicitly said that if they tested again, the U.S. would take action. They tested again, fired missiles OVER Japan, and he did nothing.

Now the North Koreans, clearly recognizing that Seoul feels ever more that it cannot depend on American leadership, have moved to de-escalate on their terms, and Trump has publicly agreed to give them the first presidential meeting ever. Without preconditions, of any kind. The White House walked that back a day later, saying some progress on disarmament must happen first, but the president is all over the place. Nobody knows what he wants. He has no foreign policy, other than bipolar cycles of bluster, withdrawal and engagement.

It's so absurd for Trump supporters to make fun of Obama's red line these days, it should make you red in the face. Of course it doesn't, but nobody's interested in your conscious disinterest in the facts. Fact No. 1 of this thread: Our closest ally, which we are committed to defending unto death, has been attacked with a weapon of mass destruction, and they say they're pretty sure who did it. We are saying and doing NOTHING.

    What does that tell you?

    If only Trump's red-lines worked.
