I worked with a guy that I really respected. He was a programmer on Star Wars (SDI) lasers in space. He was de-classified about 2-3 years ago on the project. He claims with conviction that we have chemical lasers in space capable of knocking out massive amounts of ICBM's targeted at the U.S. He believed it was one of the big reasons the U.S.S.R. folded up as they tried to race us on nuclear weapon technology and it broke them. Anyone that knows the properties of a laser in space versus one in the atmosphere would know about there being no refraction in space and lasers are incredibly powerful out of the atmosphere in comparison.

By the way, I told him SDI is no longer in use after he told me. He looked puzzled and asked why I said that. I told him that they would not have de-classified the information with you if they didn't already have something better. He turned and walked away, with one comment. "Shit!"

People take pride in their work.

We all know about the Boeing X-37B (smaller drone shuttle). That's pure Top Secret military space operation.

"Space is a war-fighting domain, just like the land, air, and sea," Trump told a an audience of service members at the Marine Corps Air Station Miramar. "We may even have a Space Force, develop another one, Space Force. We have the Air Force, we'll have the Space Force." The president described how he'd originally coined the term as a joke, while discussing U.S. government spending and private investment in space. "I said, 'maybe we need a new force, we'll call it the Space Force,' and I was not really serious. Then I said, 'what a great idea,' maybe we'll have to do that," Trump told the crowd of Marines.

"So think of that, Space Force," Trump continued, "because we are spending a lot and we have a lot of private money coming in, tremendous. You saw what happened the other day, and tremendous success. From the very beginning, many of our astronauts have been soldiers and air men, coast guard men and marines. And our service members will be vital to ensuring America continues to lead the way into the stars."

It was unclear whether the president was still joking by the time he finished his off script remarks about a Space Force. The White House did not respond to a request for comment.

Gosh I sure hope he's joking because this idea is just ridiculous.
They had better call it "Starfleet" and name the first vessel "Enterprise". This is actually something that has been kicked around for a bit by the higher ups in the Pentagon. Back in the day, we used to have an army and an air force that were combined, but the missions were completely different so they split. We are probably reaching the same point now with this issue.

If you think there aren't weapon systems in space, and that space activity basically stopped decades ago; you're fooling yourself.

What does it say that he's not considering NASA?

Sending astronauts back to the moon is one of the top space priorities of President Trump. But his administration wants to accomplish that without giving NASA additional money, and it won’t occur until after he leaves office, even if he wins re-election.

Instead, it aims to give the private sector a greater role, according to a budget proposal to be released on Monday.

The administration is also looking to end American payments for the International Space Station by 2025. The space station is currently scheduled to operate through 2024, but the expectation was that it would be extended through at least 2028.

And that is just conventional space travel.

That's what Russian Air Force is called now, FYI, Vozdushno-Kosmicheskie Sily (VKS), Aerial-Space Forces. Seriously. As of, like two or three years back. I think it was changed not long before the intervention in Syria.

The Royal Air Force motto is "Per Ardua ad Astra" "Through adversity, to the stars" so they've had it covered for decades!
