The incident was close to 20 years ago too. 6 gun homicides in 2 and a half decades, is a pretty good indication I don't work in a large city.

I wouldn't know how this could be answered since we don't have any militia.

Therefore I don't see how the second amendment has any force of law. I guess if you are not enrolled in a militia (which does not exist) you have no right to own a firearm.

Read the entire amendment, not just the parts that one agrees with.

I have a lot of personal experience with some of these rounds. I have shot a lot of whitetail deer, which are man sized game where I live, 150-200 pounds. I wouldn't consider using an AR15 for that sized game, it doesn't effectively kill them. I have a 22-250 Remington which uses the same size bullet but is much higher velocity that I use for target shooting and varmints. When my state may .22 caliber centerfire rounds legal for deer, it tried my 22-250. Unless you have a carefully placed shot, you will not recover your game. The AR15 was designed to maim instead of kill. The ARs predecessor the 7.62x51 NATO or .308 Winchester is very effective at killing and totally appropriate for whitetail deer.
Your cite says that it all about force, and the 9mm handgun delivers up almost exactly the same as the AR. The same cite also uses numbers at 500 yards just to make comparisons slanted. Most shootings are inside 50 yards. The AR isn't even accurate at 500 yards.

As a scientist I am sure you appreciate some real facts, data and actual numbers. You are most welcome.

    From your Trace cite:
The 7.62 round is not as fast as the .223, the round fired by the AR-15 (America’s most popular assault rifle), but it hits its target with more energy. Tests show that while it travels at 1,154 feet per second at 500 yards, slower than the .223 at that distance, the AK’s bullet can deliver 370 foot-pounds of force, more than the AR. That’s because the 7.62 is almost twice as massive as a .223. In the technical language of ballistics engineers, the standard unit of measurement for a bullet’s mass is grains of metal, and depending on the manufacturer, a .7.62 can weigh in at 125 grains. A .223 is just 55 grains.

There are no well regulated militias in America, or even poorly regulated ones. Just citizens killing one another.
