Farm state lawmakers, including Republicans, blame Trump for new China tariffs
    By ALI ROGIN

"Senators from major soybean-producing states in the Midwest, including Republicans, are steaming over China’s threat to impose tariffs on U.S. soy exports, blaming President Donald Trump's aggressive actions against China for the trade retaliation that could hit farmers and ranchers particularly hard."
"The Chinese tariffs would almost certainly hit farmers and others who voted for President Donald Trump harder than those who voted for Hillary Clinton in 2016."

    ================================================== ==

Trump should have never imposed tariffs on China. That was yet another egregious move on his part. Now even members of his own political party are quite upset with him and we must also suffer the consequences of new China tariffs also imposed on this country.

Farm state lawmakers deserve whatever they get.

I'm glad that China is looking at tariffs that specifically target Trump-friendly states.

Best thing that will come of this is a blue sweep. And an impeachment.

There's nothing buy corn and soybeans around here. I can't imagine the farmers are too happy about this. The price of soy and corn is down and who knows what will happen.

I guess the economy is doing well enough to support the losses at the moment but I don't see that lasting. No one knows if Trump is bluffing or not. I don't think he has a clue what he's doing, but IMO if the issue is intellectual property, why are we dragging all this other stuff into it?

Again, we should have done this 20 years ago.

I can't imagine that is accidental or coincidental. I think, just my opinion, the Chinese know exactly where to punch back.

They do, and not only the Chinese. When Trump was threatening to impose steel tariffs on several of our allies, like Germany, Britain and Canada, they were talking about putting tariffs on Harley-Davidson motorcycles, which are manufactured in Paul Ryan's Congressional District in Wisconsin. Go after Trump's allies and enablers, in short.

Trump could shoot a man on 5th Avenue and not loose support...but fuck with a man's money and see how fast the shit changes.

“I talked to the President as recently as last night,” Perdue said during a news conference in Ohio. “And he said, ‘Sonny, you can assure your farmers out there that we’re not going to allow them to be the casualties if this trade dispute escalates.’”

Awesome...now the American tax payer gets to bail out US Farmers. America goes into deeper debt and owe China ever more money.

America's urbanites have been subsidizing America's farmers for several decades now, going back to the Great Depression and the introduction of agricultural price supports. Necessary in the 1930's, I think, but we should have reverted to a free market in agriculture after World War II. I bet many folks living in the cities would be surprised at how affluent most of our farmers are these days. Most of them are NOT lacking in creature comforts. They're not lying when they tell you that the blue states are subsidizing the red states.

I think there is a difference in price supports and buying all surplus soybeans not sold to China.

    I like affordable milk prices.

Farm bill has definately helped dairy farmers here in New England. At one point, they dumped milk years ago. Although now they want more money as they think dairy prices are too low.
