That was not the case here. Most of them were closed and sold simply because they weren't being used.

I won't stop in them at night but occasionally will during daylight, depending on where they are. If one's not available or doesn't seem safe, I head to a convenience store. I've never had a C-store employee question my use of the restroom, but I most always buy a soda or a snack just as a courtesy.

Around here, it is the late night convenience stores that tend to attract criminals. There's not much to steal from a public restroom, unless a criminal has a reliable fence for used toilet paper.

I don't think theft is as much an issue with public restrooms, but rather safety. As a woman, when I'm traveling alone, I'm not inclined to stop somewhere that isn't well-lit and fairly well-populated.

Perhaps, Dave Chappelle's suggestion was spot on. He said that every group of black guys should have one white member at the minimum, because at some point someone may need to talk to the police.

It isnt the theft but we have had rapes, assaults, drug deals and such at rest stops.

Drug deals are made everywhere. Same with assaults and rapes. Face it, usually the state simply does not want to spend the money.

Apparently the two were real estate agents waiting for a friend. Some of the white customers have said that they never had the police called on them while they waited for someone else to arrive before ordering.
    Mr. Macduff,

Big whoop about nothing. Apparently, these guys had been sitting there for a while, one asked for the code to use the restroom. The barista said the restrooms are for customers only, and the guy made a scene, and the store called the police.

Mr. Kallie Knoetze why must you make things up? The men did not make a scene. You are making that up. Not even the store employee says the men made a scene. They just refused to leave after being ask to leave. They did not raise their voices or threaten anyone. They declined the request to leave simply after they were refused the use of the rest room. One wonders if they would have been asked to leave if they had not asked to use the rest room? Would these men have even come to the attention of the counter staff had they not asked? Don't get me wrong I think when the men were asked to leave they should have just waited outside for their friend or just bought something and used the restroom and waited for their friend inside. That's what I would have done anyway but I generally don't like to stay were I have been asked to leave after being told I needed to be a paying customer to stay. To suggest that simply declining a request to leave the premises is making a scene is an exaggeration which cuts your credibility. No need to make things up.

Well trained cops deescalate situations and that one was obviously an easy one to do that with. I disagree that when a cop gets all the information they have no power to explain it to the one complaining. They do that every day across the US. This wasn't even a bad situation nor was it emotional. Just two men explaining as the one who they were waiting for arrived and explained it. Not even an issue in most cases. They all acted poorly. I'm not saying every cop there agreed with whatever cop had the power to fix it when he opted instead to arrest them instead. I am speaking about the one who made that decision when he was already informed that the two professional gentlemen were indeed waiting for someone to discuss real estate with.

What you have to ask instead is "Does Starbucks have everyone waiting for someone arrested?" and then "Do cops arrest customers even after their logical reason is verified?" Get that information and you'll have the answer.
