The owners of that store made a point that they have no business being in the hospitality industry. That's for sure.

It used to be, but most folks these days aren't old enough to remember it.

They shouldn't have had to. Other customers have noted that they have done the exact same thing as these two men, waited for someone to join them before ordering.
When you're black, sometimes doing what the cops say doesn't work out too well for you either.

If you refuse to leave a private business after being asked by the management and then refuse when asked to leave by the cops you are deemed as trespassing. Nobody said they were resisting arrest but they still had grounds to be charged with trespassing after being asked to leave.

Are you sure they were asked to leave?

By the time the cops get there, it's probably a little late to buy a muffin.

I read that they had asked to use the restroom and were declined because they hadn't made a purchase. I don't recall the article mentioning them having been asked to leave prior to the 911 call being placed. I could be wrong. The article I read could be wrong. I read it earlier today.

Apparently the article says after asking to use the restroom they were told it was for paying customers and they were both asked to leave.
It’s happened to me as I went into a Starbucks downtown. A very busy section of the city and I had to go in between appointments. No key to pee without a purchase. I just left as the building I was walking to had a public washroom and it was’t far. I didn’t want a coffee as Starbucks is one big rip off in terms of specialty coffee and I hate dark roasted in terms of just coffee. If I really had to go and could not wait or wasn’t sure there was a bathroom within my walking distance I would have bought one anyway and probably just tossed it.

The only difference is, instead of leaving the building, they sat down to wait for their friend and had every intention of placing an order when he arrived -- which he did, as they were being escorted out of the building in handcuffs.
