    Steadfast Syrians defy Trump

DAMASCUS, Syria — Hundreds of Syrians gathered at landmark squares in the Syrian capital Saturday, honking their car horns, flashing victory signs and waving Syrian flags in scenes of defiance that followed unprecedented joint airstrikes by the United States, France and Britain.

A few hours earlier, before sunrise, loud explosions jolted Damascus and the sky turned orange as Syrian air defense units fired surface-to-air missiles in response to three waves of military strikes meant to punish President Bashar Assad for his alleged use of chemical weapons.

Associated Press reporters saw smoke rising from east Damascus and what appeared to be a fire light up the sky. From a distance, U.S. missiles hitting suburbs of the capital sounded like thunder. Shortly after the one-hour attack ended, vehicles with loudspeakers roamed the streets of Damascus blaring nationalist songs.

“Good souls will not be humiliated,” Syria’s presidency tweeted after the airstrikes began.

Immediately after the attack, hundreds of residents began gathering in the landmark Omayyad square of the Syrian capital. Many waved Syrian, Russian and Iranian flags. Some clapped their hands and danced, other drove in convoys, honking their horns in defiance.

“We are your men, Bashar,” they shouted.

Syrian state TV broadcast live from the square where a large crowd of civilians mixed with men in uniforms, including an actor, lawmakers and other figures.

“Good morning steadfastness,” one broadcaster said.

Looks like they ain't scared of your "big, new, smart" missiles, orange monkey...

This is what you need to understand, my American friends. Your government is not one of the good guys over there. There are none, pretty much, they are all nasty characters, on all sides. But, your government is no better than Russia, in that war. In fact, Russia is there legally, on the invitation of the government, as is Iran. While the US, UK, and France, are Invaders. Kind of like Russians in East Ukraine. Your government is supporting terrorists in there. It just acted in support of the Saudi-backed "Army of Islam"; and it also supports Kurdish groups Turkey considers terrorists (not that the opinion of Turkey rates very highly with me, but, just, on principle, your government backs people another NATO country sees as terrorists, how fucked up is that?). And, again, your military just attacked a sovereign state for no good fucking reason.

It's fine. Yes, you guys have a big military with lots of toys, and they want to play with them.

Just, for God's sake, stop pretending you are better than anyone.

At least Russia got involved in Crimea and Donbass to help their blood kin. While America is over there, in Iraq and Syria, for nothing more than oil...

Here is what I will say on this today, The Man. Something my brother got through to me on. Whoever did the attack, even if it wasn't Assad, the strike only was on chemical weapons facilities. How can that be a bad thing? It was telegraphed well in advance so that Assad could move his aircraft, personnel, etc. It really seems totally meaningless. Just a show. But if chemical weapons were blown up, that is never a bad thing.

Why I was all upset and hyped up last night is because Trump said he will strike Assad everytime there is a chemical attack, which is like homey say what? So now whatever faction can keep doing chemical attacks so that you will come strike Assad for them? Holy Mother of God.

Today I am just going with what my brother said about THIS strike. And hope that my fears about what Trump will or won't do in the future are wrong. After all, he reverses himself all the time.
    Thanks from The Man

have to admit. The strike doesn't appear to make a heck of a lot of sense. Trump had the audacity to declare "Mission Accomplished" in complete ignorance of that terms historical context. It was also revealed that he gave the wrong speech. Pretty much, all sides are saying that there's no conclusive evidence that the timing of the strike was politically motivated. But, no one seems to be able to explain the long term strategy in Syria. The message we just sent is we don't care about anything other than enforcing a "red line". Otherwise, Assad isn't going anywhere and the people of Syria are on their own.

It's not about the chemical weapons, whether there actually were any there or not (and, after Iraq and such, forgive my scepticism of your government's claims lol).

It is about your government, your UN Ambassador Haley and others, getting all indignant about the "sovereignty and territorial integrity" of Ukraine, for example, or Georgia, while themselves having no regard for sovereignty and territorial integrity of Serbia or Syria, or pretty much any other country.

You, your government, attack and invade wherever they please. USA has never lived by the same "international laws" it preaches. Even Soviet Union didn't invade as many countries as the US. It's ridiculous.

I am sick of the hypocrisy. I don't even give a shit about Ukraine. That's not my fight. But when I hear some American official refer to my homeland, to Abkhazia, as a "breakaway Georgian territory"... Makes me want to punch my poor TV... I saw that war, as a kid, I actually saw my family's home on fire, from Georgian artillery. Who the fuck is some State Department spokesperson to insult my family and so many others, by referring to them all as Georgians, basically? That is an insult, over there, the worst you can imagine. They are not "breakaway" or "occupied". They are a proud people who fought and bled for their independence from Georgia. Just like your Kurdish friends in Iraq and Syria. Hell, just like Americans themselves, from the British. Yet, US government presumes it can decide who is a country and who is not. Well, no offense, but fuck your government...

We were told the "weapons" were struck and destroyed. How did we find these weapons and these sites just days after Assad's attacks?

Where is the UN inspectors? Where is their assessment on this strike.

They just arrived and were to start work today: Syria chemical attack: weapons inspectors to investigate site

But your government already drew and fired. American cowboys don't need no evidence

and also, how come we haven't targeted them before now? Trump increased the air strikes. He's keeping his campaign promises.

I stopped reading at the mention of Haley. She has always been a shill for war on Syria, Assad must go, etc. At least Trump reversed that policy, though people are pushing him to re-adopt it.

I'll say again, Obama's heart was never in it. Hillary must have been seething at him and John Kerry. Because she was ALL ABOARD that train.
Thanks from The Man and THOR
