Former first lady Barbara Bush is in "failing health"

HOUSTON (AP) — Former first lady Barbara Bush is in “failing health” and won’t seek additional medical treatment, a Bush family spokesman said Sunday.

“Following a recent series of hospitalizations, and after consulting her family and doctors, Mrs. Bush, now age 92, has decided not to seek additional medical treatment and will instead focus on comfort care,” spokesman Jim McGrath said in a news release.

I always liked her. At 92, I hope she finds peace. How sad.

Me too and I didn't have many issues with her husband either. They have been married for 62 years, the longest running marriage for any POTUS.

I respect her decision to be at home with all her loved ones. I hope she finds peace too.

Isn't always the way that the one that you don't expect to go first does? President Bush has been the one in and out of hospital this last 12 months yet she appears to be the one that is perhaps days or weeks away from passing. Unfortunately when a couple has been married for as long as they have it ususally follows that within the year the other passes away too. At least they have lived a long and full filling life and have family that loves them around them.

I always liked Barbara, she spoke straight up even if it wasn't what you'd have expected her to say. She is a strong willed lady.

The article stated that she has fought Grave's disease for a long time...I am speculating heart failure. I respected Papa Bush as well.

I would bet, they pass within days of each other when it is time. After 62 years, a good marriage, broken heart syndrome could easily apply to them.

    Me too. Great lady.

But she has had about as full of a life as anyone could have imagined. Nobody lives forever, and this lady has made the most of her time at the table.

As my late grandmother once told me, "Getting old sucks."

It's why I'll have no part of it.
