Deported U.S. veteran Hector Barajas-Varela returns home to be sworn in as a U.S. citizen
    By Gabe Ortiz

"Surrounded by ecstatic and emotional supporters, deported U.S. veteran Hector Barajas-Varela returned home to the U.S. last Friday to be sworn in as a citizen of the nation he served for six years:

"The Mexico-born U.S. veteran, who waged a decade-long fight to return to the U.S. after his deportation … traveled from Tijuana, Mexico to San Diego, California and officially became a U.S. citizen.

“I’m home today,” said Barajas-Varela to cheers from family, supporters and veterans groups outside the city's Department of Homeland Security building."

At last justice has been served properly and Mr. Barajas-Varela is back home where he belongs especially after serving this country in the exemplary manner that he did which earned him the distinguished Army Commendation Medal and Humanitarian Service Medal.

I sort of have mixed feelings about that guy. Great that he served, and he should have pursued his citizenship right away... but he didn't, and then he got busted for pushing drugs... not using them, but selling them. My first reaction was the same as everyone, you know... how could we do this to someone who served as a combat veteran? But as I learned more, it became harder to champion his cause, since he's a drug dealer.

Anyway, he got back... I hope he turns his life around.

I feel the exact same way as Chief on this one. We all make choices in life. He chose not to pursue citizenship after getting out of the military. He chose to peddle drugs. This made it that much harder for him to come back here.

And it all happened under Trump's watch. Ya think he's turned over a new leaf?

"Barajas-Varela said he had difficulty adjusting to civilian life,” struggling with addiction and ultimately serving a year in prison after shooting at an occupied car. "

So a non combat vet, commits a gun crime and he gets awarded citizenship? Blames his gun crime on his non-combat service?
