What's with Trump's continued pattern of unusual "protection" for Russia?

How long before enough people catch on to Trump's history of denial, lying, deflection and calling anything that is unflattering (much of it is merely showing him on video, lying and contradicting himself) about him or most of what moves to put pressure on Russia. "fake" or unwarranted. So far, if there is anything Trump has done to "punish" Russia, it has been token or under pressure and he has stalled on moving forward, what Congress has already approved.

"Trump delays more sanctions against Russia, overruling Haley"

"President Trump on Monday overruled UN Ambassador Nikki Haley, delaying new sanctions against Russia that she had announced only a day before."

"The president changed course after Russia denounced the sanctions as “international economic raiding,” the Washington Post reported."

"Haley had gone on CBS News’ “Face the Nation” to announce that sanctions on Russian companies that made materials used in Syrian strongman Bashar al-Assad’s chemical weapons attack would be announced by Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin on Monday."

Who else, but a dictator, does not want to delegate to the people he picked to delegate to, because they are experts in what they were picked to do, but insert himself into every decision or fire them if they disagree with his "approach"?

Dictators don't want advisers, they want loyal, "yes" people around them, to carry out what they dictate as orders.

Why oh why has Trump cancelled the already announced sanctions on Russia? They were supposedly made with his knowledge but now says he was misled? By whom, Nikki Haley? Did she use big words and confuse him? Did she send him a written report and he didn’t understand it? What did Putin say to him or what message was passed to him from Putin? Kompromat !!!!

Trump Nixes Russia Sanctions That Haley Had Already Announced

What is it with Trump and Russia? Why does he always softball them?

Is the pee tape real? Is his man crush on Putin real?

Once again, Trump backs down, going so far as to scrap announced sanctions agaisnt Russian companies that supplied the chemical weapons equipment to Syria.

This is after Haley announced the sanctions.

Is there some sort of cohesive plan? Or does the president just act on whims according to his Russian masters?

Trump Nixes Russia Sanctions That Haley Already Announced

On Sunday, Nikki Haley informed the United Nations that our government was preparing sanctions against Russian companies complicit in Syria’s chemical weapons program. On Monday, the White House announced that the U.N. ambassador had misspoken.

“We are considering additional sanctions on Russia and a decision will be made in the near future,” Sarah Huckabee Sanders said in a statement. But reporting from the New York Times and Washington Post suggests that Trump has already decided against imposing a new round of sanctions, absent a new provocation from Moscow.

It is unclear whether Haley misinterpreted some message from her higher-ups, or whether the president intervened to kill a plan he’d previously approved. Last Wednesday — minutes after one member of the Fox & Friends morning crew argued that, “What we should be doing is telling the Russians, ‘every Syrian military base is a target and if you’re there, it is your problem’” — Trump suddenly adopted a hawkish posture toward Putin’s regime. The president warned Russia to “Get ready” for a missile strike, and admonished its government for partnering with a with a “Gas Killing Animal.” It’s conceivable that Trump could have green-lit new sanctions while in that feverish frame of mind, only to subsequently decide that he couldn’t stay mad at Vlad.

Putting aside Trump's apparent subservience to Russian interests, this administration is quite simply dysfunctional. Far too many critical positions remain unfilled in Trump's second year in office, and the people who are there don't seem to be capable of communicating with one another well enough to stay on the same page on any issue, foreign or domestic.
