We're already too far left, imo.

Social Security, Medicaid, obamacare. These things should not be done on a federal level, if at all.

    Here come the personal attacks.

There are two trains of thought regarding these types of programs. One contends they are constitutional via the general welfare clause, the other contends the general welfare clause was never meant to be interpreted so broadly. I subscribe to the latter opinion.

No answer? Ask him if his parents benefit.

Social Security and Medicare are federal, thanks to FDR and LBJ.

Medicaid is Federal, too, but some States, mostly Republican refused Federal money. Kasich accepted.

yeah. most people do not understand that while they may not currently benefit - there is a good chance they will benefit. that's what an entitlement is - you pay ahead for being entitled to reap benefits once you qualify. as to Medicaid, it's a federal/state co-op program.

Its not that I am turning on Bernie, I respect him still. He truly believes what he says. Many in my family supported him and still do. I just think its wiser for him to stay in Vermont and maybe campaign in progressive areas for others that are running. Having him campaign all over can hurt moderate democrats AND republicans. I knew several people in 2016 who loved Bernie and when they heard him say HRC was a corporatist, they refused to vote for her no matter what. So I do think he has to be careful in his rhetoric. Those of us here in New England remember how he bashed democrats over the years and said how awful the DNC was. In some ways, thats what Trump did too, he bashed mainstream republicans and pushed the extreme to the forefront. I think Bernie would have done the same had he won.
    Thanks from Babba

To me at least, that isnt an easy answer for either party. Some areas are much more liberal than others and some are more conservative than others. Moderates are necessary in many areas. There is no "one size fits all" party. Both sides have their extremists which can do well in some areas. But since we have an electoral college, candidates probably have to be in the middle. We occasionally get a leader further left or right but they dont usually last long and not without conflict. Politics in the US is still very much territorial. What flies in Peoria doesnt in Seattle and vice versa.
