I do find that strange how some would rather trump fail than have peace on the Korean peninsula.
I'm not interested in Trump failing. I'd like to see the summit succeed, including a true and lasting peace between North and South Korea and the denuclearization of the peninsula -- and if that comes about with Trump's involvement/assistance, I've no qualms about giving him (some of the) credit for it.

However, this is absolutely Kim moving the goalposts. Which is consistent with his past behavior. And why one must employ cautious optimism (and some healthy skepticism) as it relates to the proposed talks.

Here is what is crazy to me...not getting NK to understand that the drills were planned and coming and could not be cancelled

One would think Pompeo would have mentioned that point of fact.

US and South Korea launch 'Max Thunder' drills

CNN's Paula Hancocks reports from Kunsan air base in South Korea where the US and South Korea's "Max Thunder" military exercises are underway.

Is Pompeo so fucking new and green not to press this point to UN?

Dear Jesus these people are a fucking joke.

Why it matters: This is a dramatic change in tone from North Korea, which recently released three U.S. prisoners and began dismantling a nuclear test site as part of efforts to lay the groundwork for talks with Trump.

    North Korea moving the goalpost?

    I’m SHOCKED!
No surprise there. NK always plays games and just because Trump is president doesn't mean they'll change their strategy.

Kind of makes me feel bad for SKs leader as he really wanted the summit. But then again, he certainly must have thought conducting military drills now might be a bad idea????

Really? You have a link to the news story that would indicate such? Because that sounds totally made up.

Kim is in checkmate. Whatever squealing coming from him is irrelevant. If he really wants to try the alternative, the deal will be enforced by his replacement.

Wait. What? That is totally made up. Totally fabricated.

But they've been planned all along. And to alter that would appear as up-front concession/appeasement.

I do think DD raises a fair point -- if this wasn't addressed up front by Pompeo and the NK team, then that was a mis-step.

I always knew some on the left were that far out there, but to see the confirmation like this is very sad.
The folks who thought that Kim was genuinely willing to completely denuclearize were being wildly optimistic if not downright NAIVE.

Indeed, it seems that HIS idea of denuclearization was that the United States would ALSO have to give up all of OUR nukes..........

There are no goal posts. We don't even have a playing field yet.

This is the function of diplomacy...to meet and hammer out the particulars. THEN when a tentative meeting is negotiated, THEN the meeting is announced.

Trump and Un are doing everything ass backwards. Making flashy pronouncements with zero details worked out.

Funny that you Obama haters don't see the irony.

    Chalk it up to ignorance.

I get it though; he's scared. He knows he is defeated.

He just wants reassurances that he won't get dragged through the streets being sodomized by assault rifles till dead.

You can thank Obama for his hesitation.
