Houston rep rips Pelosi over impeachment comments

A Houston Congressman on Monday took exception to House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi's comments in Dallas opposing impeachment of President Donald Trump.

Democratic Rep. Al Green said in a statement that Trump is "the quintessential person that impeachment was designed for," no matter what Pelosi thinks.

Green led a push to impeach the president last year. But Pelosi, the former House speaker, told The Dallas Morning News' editorial board on Friday that while she loved Green, she wishes he'd back off. "We have elections," Pelosi said Friday. "Go vote if it's a policy thing and a behavior thing. I don't know if you can get impeached for being a jerk, but if we did, this guy would be long gone. But that's not unifying." Talking about impeachment at this point, Pelosi said, is a gift to Republicans in the midterm elections.

But Green said in his statement Pelosi was "trivializing" Trump's behavior. "He is the most powerful person on Earth," he said. "His hateful, harmful tweets can, and have become policy. His words can move markets. He's not just some 'jerk,' he's the President of the United States with a bigoted policy agenda." Green's impeachment efforts have so far failed overwhelmingly in the House.

I think she has a valid point. Do the Democrats want an impeachment process similar to the circus surrounding that of Bill Clinton? Without a solid case the Democrats will come out with mud on their collective faces. They should take the moral high ground and let the electorate decide.

I agree. I always think its better to run for something than against. Policy should be front and center. As we saw with 2016, Trump was very good at distraction and deflecting. His opponents all fell for it. He had a nickname for everybody and instead of calling him out for it, they played to it. Forgot what they were running on and became obsessed with him. Its how he rolls and what he counts on.

We should, at the very least, wait for the results of the Mueller investigation.

I don't want the Dems running on impeachment for all the obvious reasons plus all that will get us is Pence, but if they don't go after him for this Chinese telecom thing I have to believe they're okay with it. I'm not okay with it and no one else should be either. Foreign leaders are flat out buying our president, out in the open for the world to see, and if that isn't grounds for impeachment I don't know what is.

If he's allowed to get away with this it's the same as putting a "for sale" sign on the WH lawn. I'd be willing to put up with Pence just to send a message that this isn't who Americans are.

I prefer to think they're both right.

Green's assessment of Trump is correct.

Pelosi's opinion that impeachment isn't the right course is also correct.

Hard to argue with that. Pelosi is still the superior politician, in my opinion.

That doesn't mean that I have to like her, does it?

    I sure hope not!

No. Of course not. Democrats should always hate every politician that the Republican Party advises them to hate.
