Then why do they import Milk? Why do they have 270% tariff on it?

The US subsidizes 73% of the income of American dairy farmers. Those subsidies account for 100% of US dairy farmers profits, as they could never dream of selling at the price they sell at if they weren’t getting 73% of their income from direct government subsidies.

They make ALL their profit from subsidies. None from the sale of milk. What they sell doesn’t cover a fraction of their costs.

Here we do the opposite. We limit supply, federally, to increase the price. This keeping farmers in the black.

There’s two ways to negotiate a settlement to this.

One we just did with the Pacific deal, was to let a negotiated amount of foreign dairy in - then Australia and NZ can subsidize it as much as they like, but only a certain amount is coming in. We will then produce more, to allow export to Aus and NZ.

    Fair, managed trade

Another would be a NAFTA deal where US stops the subsidies and we stop the tariffs.

    Fair, free trade.

But we drop the tariffs and you keep massively subsidizing US farmers? No. That’s not a deal. That’s not a negotiation. That’s ridiculous.

Any of the other two real life options are up for negotiation.

Onviously Trump would never spend 3 minutes to understand this so he goes on spastic temper tantrums on twitter. Meanwhile, real professional US negotiators are actually negotiating this.

I suspect that Trump went ballistic because Trudeau punked him with that "gift".

Justin Trudeau trolls Trump with framed photo of his grandfather's Canadian brothel

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau appeared to hold back laughter Friday at the G-7 summit when he presented President Trump with a framed photo of a hotel and brothel that Trump's grandfather once operated in British Columbia.

White House press secretary Sarah Sanders tweeted a photo of the moment — with Trump sitting in front of the Canadian flag and Trudeau sitting in front of the American flag — praising the gesture.

“Great moment between @JustinTrudeau and @POTUS when he gave him picture of the President’s grandfather’s hotel in Canada. #G72018", the tweet said.

I don't know how much Trump really knows about his own family history, but Sarah Sanders obviously didn't know that one of Donald's grandfather's first forays into the real estate business was literally a den of iniquity, operating as an illegal gambling den and brothel.

"Milk" includes milk products like cheese, butter, powdered milk, and more.

Further, trump declined to participate in a trade agreement that would have done away with Canadas tariff.

Trump pulled the United States out of the Trans-Pacific Partnership. But Canada went on to complete the massive free trade deal with 10 other nations, including Japan, Australia and Mexico.

The deal allows signatories to send an increasing amount of dairy products to Canada over the next two decades -- with zero tariffs. That includes milk, cream, butter, cheese and ice cream, among other products.

Trump missed a chance to cut Canada's dairy tariffs
Now trump can blame canada, and his followers wont know the difference.

Different standards.... My wife's mom has family that are farmers, so my knowledge is indirect and don't know what exactly the differences are, but in Canada higher standards means lower production, and why there's the desired difference.

    I was serious.

Everything I wrote there is easily checked with a google search.

If there’s a specific claim you don’t think is correct then I’ll try and back it up with something.

Trump put them on notice that they need to fix their trade deals with the U.S. I am not for tariffs, but I think he is using them to simply force them to the table... at least I hope so and that is the indication by what is going on with China.
Canada should just tell trump to go fuck himself and there will be no negotiating anything NAFTA until the jackass is gone. Why waste the time when he knows damn well that republican or democrat, the next president will be more reasonable. Same with Mexico. we will meet your tariffs tit for tat until you are gone.

Canada is the one stopping an agreement
