I don't think we have to. What does North Korea offer, concrete, today? Trump has no answers, nor do I think he cares. Nobody wants war, but this reeks of appeasement.

I was surprised SK wasnt there as well but I guess they are saying this first meeting was just the US. The next ones are supposed to be in a month or two and SK will likely be there. I guess its just one day at a time thing, if they dont act badly we continue.

That's called a photo op. It's not diplomacy.

But photo ops have their uses.

This is why no thinking adult can tolerate the right wings nonsense anymore. Its like dealing with children.
There is no "like" about it.

That's not an unreasonable stance to take ... when dealing with an unknown party.

When you're talking to someone who has repeatedly violated past commitments on this very issue, it's pretty dumb.

But I choose to look on the bright side. Nobody probably gets nuked for the immediate future. OK, fine.

Its a start. NK may act bad tomorrow and its back to name calling. But at least they met. Initially I didnt think it would be a good idea, but SK and Japan welcomed it, albeit nervously. Hopefully things will end well.

Yea we can all pick at it and not like it but the proof will be in the pudding. If it all fails tomorrow things will get worse. However, if it goes well thats a good thing. News has been showing the Reagan/Gorbachev initial summit and things were bad then too. I hadnt realized it was as bad. History has a different perspective now but I guess back then it was tense.

North Korea is sure happy about the situation, though. It's less likely they'll nuke people.

That's worth almost any cost, but this still stings.
Being a leftie peacenik anti-war person, I'm fine with the outcome of this.

Not looking for forward to hearing Trump crow about having achieved world peace and how only he could do it due to his status as literally God on earth, but IMO this is a great beginning to the US no longer being the world police.

Asia is not our backyard and I'd rather we pull our military out of there and let them fend for themselves.

Now let's cut the defense budget and spend the money we save on truly universal health care for our own people.

    So, yay for Trump.

    Jeff Tiedrich.

Fun true fact: North Korea previously pledged denuclearization in 1985, 1992, 1994, 2002, 2003, 2005, 2006, 2008, 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2016. Each pledge was a lie. If you believe any promise Kim made to Trump, I have five failed casinos in Atlantic City to sell you.

Meet and greets, and photo ops are part of diplomacy.

    It's early in the process.
