Florida man who killed four kids during standoff got a gun despite domestic violence

Holed up most of yesterday, a cop was called out on a domestic disturbance in Orlando with 4 kids being held hostage--he took a shot at the cop. Police didn't know if the kids were alive when I saw it last night.

He shot all 4 kids and himself. He has a long rap sheet including several domestic abuse charges. But then GUNS are a GOD-Given right here in Florida. Woman being safe? Who gives a shit! He shot them with a LEGAL gun.

The officer was in critical condition but expected to make it.

A Florida man who shot a police officer in the face before killing four children — and then himself — had a lengthy criminal record on domestic violence and other charges.

Gary Lindsey critically wounded the Orlando police officer during a domestic violence call late Sunday night and then took his and his girlfriend’s children hostage, reported the Orlando Sentinel....

Arrests don't matter. Convictions do. The headline is that of which flamebait is created.

That being said, he had an arson conviction. The domestic abuse was dropped, so calling him a "batterer" is shit journalism. He is not the kind of guy you want to have a gun. Florida should consider laws where felons can't own guns. I know California has it.

So if you POUND YOUR WIFE X 3 and don't get convicted, it doesn't count? Are those the rules?

    FLAMEBAIT MY ASS!

Yeah, Florida--the GUNShine State, the NRA petri dish!

If you don't get convicted... it doesn't count to a gun seller. There is nothing a gun seller can do if he doesn't have the convictions recorded. How do you not get that?

Florida does have such a law that prohibits felons from owning/possessing fire arms.

Did they not get the arson as a felony conviction? If so, that's a real fail by the legal system there.

The article also doesn't say he legally purchased a gun.

    This article notes....
As a convicted felon, Florida law prohibited Lindsey from possessing firearms.

This isn't a gun control argument. Quite the opposite it is an argument about how we are already soft on crime and how with even more gun laws all that will happen is those of us who are law abiding will be at the mercy of those who already break the law and have next to nothing done to punish them.

Lindsey would later plead no contest to domestic battery, arson and fleeing law enforcement and was sentenced to two years of house arrest to be followed by 28 years of probation. The plea also included a suspended 10-year prison sentence, but it was never enforced — even after he repeatedly violated his probation.
Court records trace Lindsey’s disruptive, sometimes violent trajectory through Central Florida, including arrests in at least three counties: Orange, Seminole and Volusia — the most recent just last month.
His first probation violation came in February 2011, when his probation officer wrote that Lindsey had violated his house arrest by leaving his home in Deltona without approval.......Lindsey spent 153 days in jail after that arrest, before being released back to house arrest. This time, he was ordered to apply for disability benefits and wear a GPS monitor to track his whereabouts, records show.
In April 2012, deputies were called to that same apartment after another woman reported that Lindsey had become violent during an argument and threatened her at knife point while she held their 7-month-old son.

The woman said she had been dating Lindsey for about two years. They were arguing about taking their son to the doctor, she said, when Lindsey became enraged and kicked a bathroom door until it broke. He briefly left the apartment, but returned.

The argument resumed. Then, the woman told deputies, Lindsey armed himself with a knife and held her by the throat before dragging her into the living room as their son slipped from her grasp and onto the floor.
Lindsey was arrested on felony charges — again triggering a violation of his Volusia County probation — but the case was short-lived: The following month, prosecutors deemed the case “not suitable” to move forward and opted against filing charges. The probation violation in that case resulted in a 324-day jail sentence, though Lindsey got credit for 214 days of time served. He was violated again in August 2013 for failing to make restitution payments, records show, but released after entering a plea.

Lindsey was arrested again May 4 after a loss-prevention officer at the Wal-Mart on Rinehard Road in Sanford saw him exiting the store with a shopping card full of unpaid merchandise he had placed into old Wal-Mart bags, according to an arrest affidavit.

The grand-theft arrest also violated Lindsey’s probation. But, records show, he again was released back to his probation after pleading to the violation, under the same rules of supervision as before.
Shouldn't the real question be why is this guy even out in public rather than why is he out in public and broke a law that didn't allow him to possess a gun that he used to murder all these people after burning down houses, abusing them, threatening them at knife point and so on....

Why would we believe the government could protect us from him and his illegal possession of a gun when they didn't protect anyone from his arson, his domestic abuse, his grand theft, his fleeing officers, etc.....

    This must be click-bait.
