Sen McCaskill uses private plane on her "RV tour"

    Ugh...

Sen. Claire McCaskill confirmed Tuesday that she used her private plane during a three-day RV tour of her state last month, an admission that promises to become a political headache for the Missouri Democrat in her reelection bid.

She disputed the notion that the use of the plane allowed her to "pretend" that she was using an RV rather than the multi-million-dollar plane, reportedly purchased by her husband's company in 2013. "I spent two-plus days on the RV," McCaskill said, and the plane "picked me up at the end of one day, after I spent all day on the RV" before being used to add "some stops." The RV wasn't used during that added portion of the tour, she said.

McCaskill's GOP challenger, Missouri Attorney General Josh Hawley, slammed McCaskill as "out of touch" after the report on her travel. “She has completely lost touch with reality,“ Hawley said in an interview, adding that McCaskill “has lived in the DC corridor“ for long enough to have “no inkling“ of how her state operates. “Claire McCaskill is desperate to put on a folksy act when she’s back in Missouri, but she’s too much of an elitist to even stick to a three-day RV tour without hopping on her private plane," National Republican Senatorial Committee spokesman Bob Salera said in an email.

If McCaskill's reelection bid gets grounded by her flights, it won't be the first time air travel has plagued her. She sold a private plane in 2011 after acknowledging a failure to pay hundreds of thousands of dollars of property taxes on the aircraft.

That is how it is done. You rent buses or RV'S, usually with cars following it with other staff and reporters who swap out time maybe getting face time with the candidate. The bus or RV drives all night and the candidate meets up the next morning.

Now if Claire claimed she slept and ate on it 24/7, then she's screwed. Otherwise it's SOP. For DEMS and REPS.

They even let COMMON PEOPLE (like myself) get on a bus in a town and go to another stop in the same city. Oh yeah, and I did a whistlestop campaign tour on Amtrak through FLORIDA. I don't think they do those any more.

PS. The Amtrak campaign tour I rode with was for a REPUBLICAN.

It's funny to see a Prep-School type like Hawley, the son of a banker, try to play the populist card like this. I'm sure Hawley is just itching to get into position to lower taxes for fellow members of the upper class, and to fight to preserve favorable tax treatment for private jets. But to get the votes of people in Missouri, he'll pretend to be a populist in order to claim ground to attack his opponent. I suppose, if it worked for old-money billionaire Donald Trump, there's no telling just how stupid the people are. They could well fall for it.

I don't understand this story. So she told a little fib about her travel method. It's her plane. She and her family pay for it.

How is this any different from Trump jetsetting around the country in his personal passenger jet decked out in gold trim?

    Politics is weird man.

The pseudo-scandals the Republicans have tried to use against Democrats over the years have often looked petty to the point of silliness. But in the era of Trump, the gap between the behavior they pretend to be outraged about from Democrats, and the behavior they're fine about from Republicans, has grown to such an extent that it's got to be hard for even them to keep a straight face. If a Trump administration member had spent a mere day using a private jet on the tail end of something billed as an RV tour, it wouldn't even have been noticed amidst the tsunami of corruption and genuinely outrageous behavior. But, when it's a Democrat, the Republicans will nonetheless try to convince us they think it's a big deal.
