ABC: Cohen imminently set to begin cooperating with federal investigators

    https://abcnews.go.com/US/trump-lawy...ry?id=55861988

Vanity Fair reported yesterday that Cohen has been publicly fretting arrest for the last several days.

Now, his attorneys have quit. The read is, because he's now in need of a specialist for state's witnesses.

    Rapidly developing situation...

Defense attorneys in cases such as this will typically quit if their client decides to cooperate and seek a lighter hand.

The skills to get him through trial are a different ballgame than those involved in negotiating with someone like Mueller.

Some attorneys might be able to do both, but the stakes are so high, it's not a surprise Cohen wants a specialist.

Trump's problem is, that specialist will almost certainly advise Cohen to not hold anything back. Mueller will know if he does.

Let's here from our PH lawyers on this one. Attorney client privilege is quite powerful. I don't even know that he can legally share much.

Attorney-client privilege does not protect co-conspirators when one conspirator is the attorney.

This is how the FBI took down the Mob, which extensively used lawyers to try to shield their dealings.

Have a feeling it has something to do with this:

    Special Master in Cohen Case

    And from the ABC link

Judge Wood subsequently appointed former federal judge Barbara Jones to act as a “special master” to conduct an impartial review of the materials and to referee any disputes between Cohen and the government. Trump and the Trump Organization intervened in the case and were also granted access to review the materials for potentially privileged items.

Jones reported last week that of the first 300,000 items reviewed, she had determined that just 162 of them were covered by attorney-client privilege. She rejected three items that Cohen, Trump or the Trump organization had designated as privileged.

Judge Wood has given Cohen’s attorneys until Friday to complete the review of the remaining documents. Any remaining items to be reviewed would be turned over to a team of federal prosecutors unconnected to the case to complete the examination of the documents.

Cohen knows what's about to happen to Manafort tomorrow. Can't really say that I blame him for not wanting to go to jail.

    There you have it folks!
Rooting for the bad guy is rarely effective.

Why do you constantly do it @Crusher?

In the interest of fairness - there seems to be different version's of this story.

However, the Wall Street Journal’s Rebecca Ballhaus reported that while a change in Cohen’s legal team is expected, Cohen hasn’t yet made up his mind on cooperation, per a source. And CNN’s Gloria Borger and Katelyn Polantz report that, per a source, Cohen has “not yet met with prosecutors to speak about a potential deal, and it’s unclear whether either side is seeking one.” And the New York Times reports that the change in lawyers is “primarily” because Cohen is having trouble paying his legal bills. So it’s not entirely clear what is going on here.

If Cohen does end up making a plea deal, it could be a development of monumental importance to the Trump presidency. Cohen has been by Trump’s side for over a decade, and has been involved in all manner of suspicious activity: from sex scandal hush money payoffs, to eyebrow-raising real estate transactions involving huge sums of money, to an effort to build Trump properties abroad (including in Moscow).

It isn’t clear what information, exactly, Cohen might have of criminal activity. But he’s been in prosecutors’ sights for some time. Several months ago, special counsel Robert Mueller handed off some information about Cohen to the US Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York (SDNY). And on April 9, the FBI raided Cohen’s office and residence, at SDNY’s behest.

It would appear that Crooked Mike is gonna sing for Bob!

Cohen’s expected cooperation, prompted by his lack of representation, is a troubling development for the Trump administration and Trump himself.
