The only ones I know who are leaving the state are ones who have jobs to transfer to with cheaper housing to buy nearby.

The housing market is really making it impossible to find a place to live for many. I have met some who work in SF and actually commute to Yuba City on weekends where you can still find houses for under $200000 if you aren't too picky.

I found out about how the people who want you to sign have no dog in the fight. They are hired for the gig. In California the petitions are usually from out of state. It is an actual business. Turned me off years ago.

Years ago Nocal and Socal always said we would split the state in half but just like back then, I think you are right and it won't happen. I think it has always been a game to diss each other. lol

I myself am a Callie expat. Moved from Carpinteria, CA to Portland in '91 - then to Boise in '00.

Gotta get back to beach - Pacific Beach (PB to locals), CA soon for retirement .. I can rent a nice condo there for $1500 a month at present ...

    AND legal weed

Will pick back up the sport of my early teen years until about age 35 - SURFING!

    A Republican led congress might.

Dividing California into multiple states will divide its 55 electoral votes and the GOP will almost certainly get some of them.

It would become 59 electoral votes. They would most likely be winner take all like 48 of the current states.

I dont think the effort has ever made it this far before. I think in the past the votes were non-binding resolutions.

If this vote passes, then the state could amend their constitution...if need be to start the state down the process of splitting.

As someone stated earlier, that the Constitution requires not only the OK of congress but the ok of the surrounding states. that means Arizona, Nevada and Oregon all have a say in whether California can split.

Maybe its better for all to see what it takes.
