Brit gay activist detained in Moscow

Russian police detained veteran British LGBT rights campaigner Peter Tatchell in Moscow on Thursday for what they said was an illegal protest on the first day of the football World Cup.

Tatchell, who has held similar protests around the world for years, had attempted to hold a one-man protest near Red Square to draw attention to what he said were appalling human rights abuses committed against gay men in Chechnya.

A Reuters reporter saw a Russian policeman tell Tatchell that it was illegal to hold such protests during the tournament, according to Russian law, and to stop or be detained. After a long conversation, Tatchell was led to a waiting police car.

It's not his first time in Russia.

Back in 2007, he came to Moscow and participated in what was, I believe, the first ever attempt at a Pride march on Russian soil; he was violently attacked and punched by an Orthodox nationalist counter-protester and then dragged away by police

Anyway, hell of a start just couple hours before World Cup kick-off...

The spread of AIDS is rampant in Russia. Russia refused to acknowledge there was a problem because of the Homosexual stigma to AIDS. Now AIDS is spreading in the Heterosexual population and Russian authorities are still in denial.

    Russia: Death By Indifference

Russia has experienced the fastest-spreading HIV/AIDS epidemics in any one country in history, but there remains a lack of effective preventative measures to slow it down—in large measure because the people most affected are also the country's most reviled.
