I am so sick of the homophobic crap there...

Simples, abide by the countries laws/culture. If shirt lifters and rug munchers are not welcome, don't go. Not rocket science is it.

They should go to a Muslim country with their banners and protest. I hope they can fly.

Russia has plenty of bullshit laws. Many countries do.

The gay couple apparently attacked in Petersburg were not protesting anything, they had no signs or let alone rainbow flags, far as I know.

I can only hope it was simply a regular mugging and NOT about them being who they are. But, again, this is Russia...

    Also:

England fans have started arriving in the Russian city of Volgograd before their team’s opening World Cup game on Monday and are abiding by strict warnings not to drape flags on second world war monuments.

The city, formerly known as Stalingrad, is dominated by a statue known as the Motherland Calls, an 85-metre-tall sculpture of a woman raising a sword aloft, a memorial to the millions who died in the 1942-43 battle for the city.

There are dozens of other monuments acknowledging the Russians who lost their lives during the Battle of Stalingrad scattered around the city. It had prompted concerns that England fans might provoke their hosts by hanging St George’s flags on them.

British police have worked with the Football Supporters’ Federation to make supporters aware of sensitive sites and there was an excited but respectful atmosphere on the streets of Volgograd as fans from several countries mixed.

ENGLAND football legend Terry Butcher has warned fans travelling to the World Cup to take their own ketchup – because Russian restaurants charge £3 a dollop. The former defender had a stand-up row with waiters over the extortionate cost of the relish.

Terry, 59, who is working as a TV pundit at the tournament, nipped into a Moscow diner for a Caesar salad and fries when the sticky problem arose.

He said: “I had some naughty fries, so I thought I’d ask for ketchup.

“So they brought the ketchup and I had a cola and some coffee – lovely.

“Great meal – really enjoyed it – and I got the bill and I said, ‘What’s this charge here?’ And they said it was for the ketchup! “I said, ‘no, no, no, you can’t charge me for the ketchup’.

“The waitress said, ‘yes we do’.” The waitress then called the restaurant manager over. “He said yes, they charge £2 or £3 for ketchup,” Terry said. “But for me it wasn’t the money, it was the principle.

“I said, ‘It’s not on the menu and if it’s not on the menu I can’t pay for it because I don’t know the price’.

“So we had a big argument – standup argument – and my temper was getting worse and worse. They took it off, to be fair, because they admitted it wasn’t on the menu.

“So I was happy. I won.”

He then spoke to other diners, who confirmed that it is common in Russia to charge for ketchup.

“So listen,” Terry warned. “Anybody in Russia, do not ask for ketchup because you have to pay for the stuff.

“Just get a bottle, sneak it in your pocket and put it on the plate. “And anybody now – if they mention ketchup to me, I’m going to hit them.’’

The former Ipswich Town and Glasgow Rangers defender was capped 77 times for his country over a 10-year spell.
England legend gives Russia’s £3-a-dollop ketchup a red card

lmao They charge for anything and everything they possibly can, over there... He is lucky he is a famous foreigner, so they let him get away with it this time

Portugal/Spain was superb! Usually the early round matches start off tentatively as teams feel each other out, not wanting to lose. Portugal came out running!

Well, they are really the star teams, aren't they? I mean, we are talking Christiano Ronaldo here... One of them will win, no doubt, Spain or Portugal.
