My point is that there is no separate charge for endangering the welfare of a child in cases where the woman is pregnant. The fetus is not recognized as a child.

That's why humans created the concept of reincarnation, isn't it?

Don't throw those used souls away. Recycle them!

Oh, I know that. While some states have passed laws to recognize a fetus as a person, even they won't attempt to declare a blastocyst a person. Otherwise, they'd have to arrest fertility clinic doctors for thousands of homicides. And so, we're stuck with the unanswerable question of exactly when ensoulment occurs, or whether it even does.

Not all spirits are inhabiting human bodies at the same time. Currently, more of them are experiencing human life than was the case a thousand years ago. Of course, not all spirits engaged in mortal life are in possession of human bodies. All of the higher animals also have spirits to quicken them. That's where our word "animal" comes from - anima, or spirit.

Of course, some are in the spirit world.

I wouldn't want to come back as an octopus but then maybe they are the future since humans can't get along.

So, when does life begin? It has always been pretty obvious to me that it begins when the male and the female juicy bits set off that spark inside the mama and it would also seem that science agrees. If you don't believe that, are you truly a "progressive" or are you suppressing your emotions to justify killing a new person?
Life began approximately 3.8 billion years ago. As has already been explained, the sperm and egg are both alive prior to fertilization, as are the people they came from, and the sperms and eggs that met and eventually became them. You can follow this chain all the way back to the beginning of life (on Earth).

So I think the part of the OP you put in red actually answers your question best. When life begins is really up to a personal opinion, since you are just making some arbitrary marker in the chain of life that is unbroken all the way back to the primordial soup. What makes a zygote more alive than an unfertilized egg? Nothing really. Both are alive. Pretending that this is the "beginning" of life has no scientific basis. Just an emotional one.

Do amoebas qualify as "higher animals"?

Because, you know, they are animated.

Am I a scientologist? No. Do I speculate on life before and after death? Yes. Don't you?

Seems unlikely. What do you think?
