Most newer semi-automatics that are clip fed will not discharge without the clip.

So, while one in the chamber without the clip was certainly responsible for many gun accidents in the past, that particular scenario is not as common today.

Thd death was a VIOLENT one. The death was caused by a gun. Thus "gun violence." *shrug*

    The parents should be charged.

But, this happened in California so the charges will depend on race, ethnicity, and legal status.

But, .... they should be charged.
The 4th sentence of your post is complete nonsense.

Even with the magazine in? When we bought our first 9mm, we did not know one thing about that gun, we could not even load it. We both took gun safety classes and my instructor was adamant about not having one in the chamber unless you were ready to fire. He scared me to death about this. This is why I am a strong supporter of gun safety classes.
    Thanks from Hollywood

The question is whether or not the parents were negligent possible criminally so. The storage of the firearm was just HOW they were negligent.
The OP specifcally blames the gun in the first sentence:

This tragic occurrence was not because of the gun.

It was due to child abandonment.

Had the child wondered outside into the street and been hit by a car would we have blamed the car?

    I don't think so.

My apology if you fail to see my irony here.

That only works for clip fed semi-automatics.

A loaded revolver has a chambered round at all times.

The OP did no such thing.
