The Democratic Party left me behind ó and I'm not alone

Op-ed from a legal immigrant that hates the Dem platform on immigration.

    https://www.usatoday.com/story/opini...umn/766561002/

Iíve been a loyal Democrat for about 15 years. As someone who became a citizen in 2006, I became a Democrat during the George W. Bush years, because I liked the partyís anti-war, pro-minority, pro-environment, pro-little guy positions. The Democratic Party and its followers have left me for many reasons, but here are a few examples:

The party and its followers have been showing illiberal tendencies for some time.

It has gone off the rails on immigration, free speech, identity politics and some other issues ó a topic Iíll defer for another day.

Iím no Trump supporter, but Iíve been horrified and repulsed by the political and cultural leftís hatred, demonization and mistreatment of President Trump, his family, his administration officials and his voters, which is even worse (if thatís possible) than what the right did to President Obama.

I view the current political climate both as a citizen and a writer.

As a citizen, I see myself more as a political orphan ó neither Democrat or Republican.
    Thanks from 5 stringer

Yes... I went from fascist to commie and back 3 times in my life, never having changed perspectives.

It's about time people are starting to see.

Is there any evidence that Saritha Prabhu ever was a Democrat? There's this whole cottage industry of crypto-Republican columnists, who claim to have been lefties, while parroting right-wing talking points exactly. That's a valuable media niche, to get heard above the noise of all the other right-wingers parroting the same talking points. Yet, when you look for earlier columns from such purported lefties, as evidence for the existence of a time before the "party left them," all you find is more instances of them attacking the party and mouthing standard-issue right-wing talking points.

Clint Eastwood: If you go far enough to the left, you meet the same loonies, coming from the right.

Sounds like you've been a loonie pretty much your entire life, bmanmcfly.

Max Boot is going in the opposite direction:

Max Boot: I left the Republican Party, and now I want Democrats to take over - Republican Ruler

The current GOP still has a few resemblances to the party of old — it still cuts taxes and supports conservative judges. But a vote for the GOP in November is also a vote for egregious obstruction of justice, rampant conflicts of interest, the demonization of minorities, the debasement of political discourse, the alienation of America’s allies, the end of free trade and the appeasement of dictators.

No, I've stood still, others around cared more about parties than principles. That is changing.

Just to give you a sense of the columnist's dishonesty, she claims to have been a loyal Democrat for 15 years. Yet when you dig into her columns, you see that she wasn't even loyal enough to have voted for Hillary Clinton in the last election -- based on the faux scandals involving the Clinton Foundation and Clinton's email server. So, at what point was she actually a loyal Democrat, and what evidence is there of that?

well, dunno about you, but I never identified with any party. didn't see the need. that way I don't have to bow down (or grudgingly swallow) any party's platform. I'm a radical and always have been.
