Now it's changed again? I've already posted that Norway's laws are tighter than US laws, so what countries are you now referring to?

I may indeed when I have time to go and look more closely and if I decide that this topic is worth the effort. Stay tuned.

    These countries are "the West".
Dr. G, Norway, like the other Scandinavian countries and france, among others, is a socialist country...the U.S. is not. We are as far from socialist as it's possible to get.

"Norway has been using Socialist principles and has created a modern society which provides a high standard of living and the government runs a surplus including a $300 billion fund to invest for the future? In Capitalist America, 45 million people lack medical care, in Capitalistic America there is no free early childhood care, in Capitalist America there are no paid paternity and maternity leaves for couples, in Capitalist America there is no base economic security for those who lose their jobs."

Is Socialist Norway A Shining Example Marx Was Right?

"The country maintains a Nordic welfare model with universal health care, subsidized higher education, and a comprehensive social security system. From 2001 to 2006, and then again from 2009 through 2011, Norway has had the highest human development index ranking in the world.

The Norwegian economy is an example of a mixed economy, a prosperous capitalist welfare state featuring a combination of free market activity and large state ownership in certain key sectors."

"Socialist" is not well understood by most people. Many think it means "communist". It doesn't. Really. Socialism isn't communism.
By any reasonable definition, Norway is socialist, America is a corporatocracy. Noo medical care...even if you're on medicaid. If you're poor and you need a liver transplant, you will not get one before you die. If you're wealthy, you will get one and live.
If you're poor or disabled & on medicaid, if you break your wrist and it needs surgery to be properly aligned, you will not get that surgery and your wrist will heal offset, reducing your range of motion for your hand and dooming you to arthritis in that wrist for the rest of your miserable, fringe existence life.
If you're wealthy and have Caddillac insurance, or can pay out of pocket, your wrist is fixed properly right away.
If you're one of the privileged few to be able to afford good health insurance, or your job is one of the rare ones that have good coverage, and you almost sever your hand in an accident, surgeons will try to re-attach your hand.
If you work at a job that doesn't have medical coverage and you earn less than say..$40k a year, and you nearly sever your hand in an accident, you will get a stainless steel hook.
If you're poor you won't go to college. If you're rich, you will. This perpetuates the class system.
America has little in the way of labor rights. A boss can fire you with no severance pay for any reason, at any time. You can be made to work overtime without your consent, you can be denied overtime pay, you can be denied your job back if you leave to have a baby or serve in the reserve forces or Nat guard.
You get no maternity leave if the boss so desires. You get no paid vacation or paid lunchtime. You must work holidays. You get no vacation to speak of, maybe a week, unpaid of course. You can be made to do the work of 2 or 3 recently fired people... with no raise...you can be denied a raise, ever, even if you do a fantastic job.
You can be fired instantly for talking about unionizing. You can be fired just for raising your hand when asked by the owner if anyone supports bringing in a union organizer. I could go on & on.
If you tried this in Europe in a country like France or Sweden or Norway..you'd have a revolt. Chaos. Cat's & dogs living together.
They're a free mkt socialist hybrid, and they consistently trounce the U.S. in many standard of living surveys.

Norway is also first on the Inequality-adjusted Human Development Index. We're down at 23rd. We're getting beaten by countries like Slovakia, Slovenia, and Italy. Top 3 are Norway, Australia, and Sweden.

A common kneejerk reaction to anyone stating the fact that, in fact, the United States isn't the best at everything.....just GDP.
