Not just Colorado: 26 mass murders in the USA in 30 years.

MAP: 26 Mass Murders Across America in 30 Years | Mother Jones

They have a map at the site with the locations marked in. Mass murders have occurred in most all corners of our Union. The map is clickable and when you enlarge it enough on a specific location, then a window opens with exact information about the event.

Mother Jones used pretty strict parameters to come up with these 26 documented mass-murders:

"We used the following criteria to identify incidents of mass murder:

The killings were carried out by a lone shooter (except in the case of the Columbine massacre, which involved two shooters).

The shootings happened during a single incident and in a public place (except possibly in the case of a deer hunter in Wisconsin who killed his victims after a trespassing dispute).

The shooter took the lives of at least four people (an FBI crime classification reportidentifies an individual as a mass murderer—as opposed to a spree killer or a serial killer—if he kills four or more people in a single incident, and typically in a single location).

    • If the shooter died or was hurt from injuries sustained during the incident, he is included in the victim count."

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Before 1995, I do not recall people ever really being interested in talking about the political inclinations of the perpetrator(s). Does anyone remember an incident before Oklahoma City where this was a big theme? I would be very interested in your input.

Again, my thoughts and prayers for the individuals and their families involved in the shooting in Aurora, Colorado.

Don't forget most if all guns were bought legally which shoots a hole (no pun intended) into the assertions of those that say they would get the guns if they were legal or not.

We need to ban assault rifles. There is no fucking reason people need to buy this crap. And we need to close the loopholes at gun shows. Fuck the NRA and fuck the legislators that are being held hostage by the NRA.

If we could figure out a way to stop sales to mentally deranged people that would be good to but I'm not sure how. Banning sales of assault rifles would be a good start.

Not sure about all 26 of these but I do remember hearing that all the shootings on the school campuses involved kids that were on some sort of anti-depressant such as riddelin.

Definitely a link there somewhere. Would be interesting to check those other cases also.

Good to hear. You can use the information from the clickable parts of the map as a starting point. Beware: some gruesome details are surely within all of this.

I was hoping to avoid the ban the guns discussion for a while but I see that may not be practical. As an NRA MEMBER, Licensed carrier/ hunter, but mostly target shooter I ddo have dificulty understanding why anyone in civilian life who is not an armed security guard need a 100 round brum magazine for a shot gun. I am not necessarily opposed to 30 round magazines since for example the AR-15 with a 30 mag vs a 20 mag is in my opinion not that much more effective. I do not recall if The Joker had 30 rounders or 20 for his AR-15 but my estimation is that his kill rate with a 20 would propably be 3-4 3 less people hit. Not necessarily killed. I hope that I am not being clinical here but the AR-15 (which is the Grandpa of the M-16) is not fully auto therefore a 30 rounder would not increase the shots per munjute ratio that much.

Regarding weapons lie the AR-15 IN FUNTIONALITY and not just in LOOKS LIKE WEAPON, i do not see that as a hunting weapon but as a defense weapon for limited uses. Yatch owner need them, ranchers, high security such a nuclear plant guadrds etc. Or for target fun practice. That type of weapon is not highly accurate even though more accurate than an AK-47 AND MAYBE EVEN BETTER THAN THE NEW AK-74.

I could see that weapon used by a well regulated militia who has to purchase their own weapons and ammo , as in 1791, therefore full auto would be wastefull .

Oh, yeah, sure, blame the guns.

Come on man, that's nuts. We got 26 crazy people in 30 years? Less than 1 crazy person per year, in a country of 300 million?

That is pretty darn good, my friend. I'll betcha a hundred bucks right now they got way more than that in most places in the world.

And for that you want to trample on my Constitutional rights?

    No way, pal.

The guns are not the problem here. The crazy people are the problem. Why don't you try legislating against them instead?

You leave my guns alone. I need them to protect myself. And maybe to protect you too, if the shit ever hits the fan (which seems increasingly likely).

That was fascinating and a helluva lot of info, Stefan. So, you are saying the perpetrator was engaging in overkill, being inefficient, but using ammo that would not necessarily be shot off faster than by lesser ammo. Did I understand that correctly? Wow...

According to the data that's about 504,000 gun deaths in that time frame and over 2 1/2 million injured by gun violence. Someone is certainly paying in blood for your freedoms. No one wants to take away your ability to protect yourself or family or to hunt. It would be nice to limit your capability for the harm you can inflict should you decide to go nuts.
