Dropping Welfare work requirements. Uh Mitt? Didn't you WANT that???

Romney released a new ad this week:

Aside from the overblown rhetoric in the ad, there is a little problem over the "outrage" in this ad - the wok waivers that the Romney ad is so upset about Obama offering to the states were requested by Romney, when he was Governor of Massachusetts!

The Senate bill provides states with with the flexibility to manage their TANF programs and effectively serve their low-income populations. Increased waiver authority, allowable work activities, availability of partial work credit and the ability to coordinate state programs are all important aspects of moving recipients from welfare to work.

You can read more about this letter here.

Requirements of any single State are often contrary to a National Policy.

    That is political science 101.

As Governor his job was to his State first. As President his job is to the Country.

Uh....I think it might do you some good to find out what it is that Obama is doing before you suggest that he is "nationalizing" anything. The policy that Romney is bashing is giving states greater authority to issue waivers in order to find alternatives to getting their recipients back to work!!! That is the exact request that Romney put his name to on that letter to the President in 2005. So, apparently it was a good idea when he was a Governor, but now that Obama is doing it, and Romney is running for President it's suddenly a bad idea. Just another example of Romneycare being a good idea when it was his, but a bad idea when it was Obama's. The GM bankruptcy assistance was a good idea when it was his idea, but the worst move ever when it was Obama's idea.

I don't know, Spookycolt, I kinda see a pattern here...

Sorry dude. If it's wrong at the federal level it's wrong at the state level and vice versa. You really don't expect us to buy your argument do you? I mean really?!

I wasn't referring to Obama and I certainly wouldn't excuse Romney of anything.

All I'm saying is that he was elected Governor to promote the interests of the State. Those policies sometimes are good for the State but not the nation as a whole. To say he was for something as Governor therefore he is flip-flopping because his policy changes at a National level is not really a fair statement.

Not to stop the wing nut TeaBaggeds from frothing in the lunatic ways, but they are showing us how much faux outrage runs their lives.

Obama is not ending Welfare to work. He's allowing states more independence to find ways to put people to work to get them off of welfare. Romney is a hypocrite again.

Funny how Obama won't let them do that with healthcare or immigration isn't it?

Seems he picks and chooses what he wants the States to do on their own.

    Who's the hypocrite again?

It is if the policy he is criticizing is merely granting the states an option.

Romney got a "pants on fire" label from Politifact.com over this.

Of particular note in their finding: "HHS is not proposing a blanket, national change to welfare law."

Sure, I don't have a problem criticizing him for that.
