    Coincidence? Of course not.

Did you know that as a country we rate in the top 10 for gun deaths in the world, If we removed the top four strictest gun law states out of the survey We would be in the bottom 10,,, What does that tell you? Why is this ignored? All because they don't want to admit that they are wrong?
    Thanks from Oscarb63

I heard something similar and now I have to find out which it is.

I heard if we remove, something like, Chicago, Los Angeles, New York, and. . .DC(?) (all cities with the strictest gun laws in the nation) as a nation we drop to the bottom 10 in the world. I've been suggesting dropping big cities with strict gun control for years to see what the stats would be. Now, it's out there and I need to find it.

Is it 'big cities with strict gun control' or just 'big cities?' Our cities are where most of our poor people live, where most of the drug trafficking is. If you were to compare comparably-sized cities with different sorts of gun control laws, that would make more sense. But all our largest cities with all the factors that lead to more violence and more murders HAVE strict gun-control laws, mostly because of a belief that without them, the problem would be worse.

BTW, Texas is a bad point of comparison, because in fact Texas has some of the more restrictive gun laws in the country. It's not in the top five, but it's definitely in the top ten.
    Thanks from Hollywood

This is more evidence that people with "bad intentions" aren't going to follow gun laws no matter how numerous or how strict. Apparently this fact is too difficult for the gun control nuts to grasp. Simply put, laws are obeyed by law-abiding citizens, not criminals.

Stricter gun control is just a feel good effort by misinformed and naive people who think they are helping when they are actually doing the opposite.

It's one in the same: New York, Los Angeles, Chicago. . .what more do you want?

And it's not about conforming to the Rasselas model of "sense." It is about exposing bad statistics when people like Piers Morgan and a host of gun banning idiots go off half cocked and say the US is the most heavily armed nation in the world and has the highest gun murder rate. That's a bullshit assertion based on bullshit statistics. Time for a little sanity in mathmatics here. Do Chicago and Tucson have the same gun laws? The same population? The same gun murder rates? No? Then pull the truth out of the surrounding bullshit.

And the Center for American Progress would disagree with your assessment of Texas.

I'm suggesting that the set of statistics provided is no more valid than those they oppose. I'm suggesting what might actually reveal some valid, useful information. For example, are there two cities of comparable size, with comparable crime rates but different gun laws? That might make for a valid comparison. But comparing states based on one criteria ignores all the other criteria on which the differences between them might depend.
