"White History Month" float riles 4th of July parade in NC....

    "Hug a White Person!"

'White History Month' Float Stirs Controversy At July 4th Parade

    Small video at the link.

"A small North Carolina town's Fourth of July parade was mired in controversy after a float touting "White History Month" drew a number of complaints from parade attendees.

The Fayetteville Observer reported Saturday that Hope Mills, N.C. parade included a float attached to a John Deere tractor, driven by local farmer Donnie Spell. The float included a large wagon filled with watermelons, and featured a sign that read"White History Month. Hug WTE PPL." A Confederate flag was also attached to the tractor...

    ...ABC11 reports
that Spell applied for and received a permit to participate in the parade. However, according to town officials, Spell said the sign on his wagon would read "Watermelons for sale."

    --------------------------------------------------------------------

So, apparently, this racist lied on his float application.

And you know it's gotta be pretty bad when even the DAILY CALLER refuses to defend him.

Not much information about Donnie Mills yet, except that he is 76 years old. I wouldn't jump to any conclusions about his politics, if he has any at all - at that ripe old age, it may well be that this racist is just "set in his ways". But surely in the next days we will be hearing some about his views or political activities.
    Thanks from Friday13 and OHjulie

We don't need one, FFS. History has a distinct white slant.

Why does that not surprise me? North Carolina still has our fair share of those stuck in the past.

I would support it if the float had actors doing sketches about alcoholism, domestic violence and incest.

Its actually a nice little town just on the outskirts of Fayetteville. I go down there all the time since I have family down there.

Other than possibly being fined for lying on his application (assuming that it is a crime of course), who really cares? This guy has as much right to free speech as the rest of us do regardless of how much we might not like it.

No disagreement from me on that point. You make a valid point. But what makes this any less current news than when the Right just flips out if a Democrat somewhere on the globe says something racist? Do you also say "who cares" then as well?
