Free The Pussy! Riot for the Pussy! Dang, Pussy should Riot!

""KIEV, Ukraine — A jailed member of punk group Pussy Riot who went incommunicado for nearly a month while being transferred to a new prison finally made contact with her family Thursday from a prison in Siberia.
Nadezhda Tolokonnikova’s husband Pyotr Verzilov told BuzzFeed that she called him from a prison in the central Siberian province of Krasnoyarsk, the first he or her supporters had heard from her in 26 days. Tolokonnikova disappeared Oct. 21 when officials transferred her to a new prison after she went on hunger strike in protest at what she said were “slavery-like” conditions at the prison where she was being held in the central republic of Mordovia. She also said wardens had made death threats against her.
Tolokonnikova is in a prison tuberculosis hospital in the provincial capital but is only undergoing a routine medial check, Verzilov said. She spent the past several weeks on trains from Mordovia and in transfer prisons, but her only complaint to her husband was about being isolated from the world the entire time. Verzilov said he would try to see her tomorrow.""

""Nadezhda Tolokonnikova, Pussy Riot Member, Moved To Siberian Prison Colony""

""Jailed Pussy Riot member Nadya Tolokonnikova has launched a hunger strike to protest horrific conditions in her remote prison colony following death threats from a member of the prison leadership.
In a long letter published via her husband, Petya Verzilov, and obtained by BuzzFeed, Tolokonnikova describes conditions of slave labor inside Penal Colony No. 14 in Mordovia, where she is serving a two-year sentence. Inmates at the all-women penal colony are forced to work up to 17 hours a day sewing uniforms for Russia’s notorious police, while being refused breaks, adequate sleep, and the right to complain, she says.
“You’re sent to Mordovia as though to the gallows,” Tolokonnikova writes.""

While I agree they shouldn't be in prison, I would also point out that their hardships are in a large part of own doing. While they protested on public transit and even on Red Square, authorities didn't care, nobody wanted to imprison them. But when they did that shit in the Christ the Savior Cathedral, they pissed off not only the government, but 90,000,000 Russian Orthodox Christians too. Turned the majority of the public against them, so when the government put them away, more expressed support for it than outrage or condemnation.

It was a dumb thing to do, and now they pay for it

"90,000,000 Russian Orthodox Christians" or so. Are on a downward trend I can hope. I do think the free internet will reduce the hold on these Christian followers of a false god and its hold. Don't take this wrong. I do see a personal use for the flimflam. Just need to keep that flam to oneself. Any gods are a crime on humanity. As / When used to prompt ignorant views to logic.

You can hope, but I wouldn't bet on it: Orthodoxy in Russia Today | The Mendeleyev Journal

Orthodoxy is rebounding as a very strong influence in Russian life today. Russia has celebrated the Christian faith as expressed in Eastern Orthodoxy for over a thousand years and it is deeply ingrained in Russian culture and in the hearts of many believers.

In 2008 the government released findings that approximately 67% of the population call themselves as Orthodox believers. The under 30 population is swelling in what some call a “revival” of faith.

At Easter the dining rooms at the Kremlin (presidential administration) and the Russian White House (parlimentary administration) change the diet served for both major Lenten fasts each year for 40 days prior to Easter and Christmas.

Public school cafeterias also observe the Easter Lenten and Christmas fasts in which no meat and no dairy products are consumed. Even major supermarkets and little street markets stock items reflected in the annual fasting and feasting cycles.

Very often when the church declares a holy day, the government responds in kind. In the whole of Russia generally Orthodoxy is the only religion which enjoys this status however in the Jewish, Muslim and Hindu [I think they mean Buddhist lol Dumb American newspaper, there are no Hindu Republics in Russia, though there are Hindus, mainly Slavic converts, but they have no own autonomous bodies, obviously] republics local authorities are free to follow special holy days on the calendar but must also respect the rights of local Orthodox population.

Government services are offered the Russian Orthodox Church including security protection by the Russian FSB. The Russian government also provides funding to the church for rebuilding old churches which were destroyed during the Soviet period.

The demographic of Orthodox believers is growing rapidly in the under 40 age group.
The Church even has influence on foreign policy now: "Russia?s 'Orthodox' Foreign Policy: The Growing Influence of the Russi" by Robert C. Blitt

The government has no choice but to listen to the Church

because, among other reasons, among the Slavic population, it is the Orthodox women that are having most babies

Time and demography are on their side

I may not like it, but the Orthodox are now retaking Russia from the atheists, who took it from them in 1917. It will be their country again, that's a fact. This is also why Syrian Christians, many of whom are also Orthodox, are increasingly turning to Russia for help: Syrian Christians turn to Russia for protection
