Conservatives donate more money to the poor.

Did you all see this? I haven't been here for a while. Looks like the whole cornerstone of the Liberal philosophy just fell down. Conservatives donate more money to the poor. Looks like Liberals are the greedy ones! Now we get to call Liberals the greedy punks!

No, they don't. This has already been refuted. The study isn't statistically sound for a national statement, especially since the creator of the study USED admits this.

Secondly, Liberals tended to, in that non-nationally weighted study, donate more TIME and volunteer. Conservatives gave more money.

you can count the time they spent earning that money as time donated as well.

    The study is legit.

The reality is that money is not the solution to the "poor" problem. Conservatives tend to be a wealthier group of folks in general. This group will indeed write a check to the poor- albiet to the red cross or united way. It appeases their concious and provides for tax breaks. As even the bible states in regards to the widows mite- (sp sic) it is not the quantity that counts it is the quality of the act. A wealthier group of people can certainly give more in dollars than another less advantaged group- but check writing alone in no way corrects the situations we find in our inner cities. Aiding disadvantaged people has become a career for some people. Ms Dole made grand sums of money for her own bank account by running the red cross. The oeverhead of such oginizations leave a very small percentage of the monies given to actually affect the lives of those whom it is supposed to aid.

Find me the great numbers of conservatives who will drive to the poorer areas and visit with these fellow humans. Find me the wonderful conservative folks who will provide personal transportation to the poor old african american lady in need of going to the doctor or getting her meds. Yes, when you have the dollar it is so very easy to write a tax deductable check then praise yourself for having done your bit. But as the conservatives bible states the poor widow who emptied her pocketbook actually gave more than all the wealthy of her day- for she gave her all-

Unfortunately neither side of the fense can claim great bragging rights on this issue.....

I was very blessed as a child- my father always taught me that it was not how much money you made that counted, it was how much you saved.

The best way to help the poor is to build the economy with lower taxes and less regulations. Reducing spending and the national debt would also help the economy.

With a strong economy, the poor can start working and making money. The socialdemocrats like taxes, spending, and programs, which hurt the poor, because the economy slows and debt rises. But the poor vote for them, because socialism looks very attractive, even though it does not work.

Blame it on the democrats! LOL I am a business owner and during the 90's I employed 50 some odd fine folks. During those democratic, high tax years it was clearly an employee market. Even the McDonalds and the Wendy's were offering starting pay of 8 to 10 an hour. The poor were empowered even with those awful high taxes. THe real deal is that employers hate that cycle. They have to offer more to get decent employees. They have to spend more of their profits. I did in fact become the best paying company in my field during that time and my profits sored because I was happy to see the poor empowered in such a way. No one complained of the taxes. The deficit was turned around. Jobs were abundant - and I mean good paying jobs. Unlike today when unemployment rates fail to acknowledge that the jobs now are not keeping up with the cost of living scales.

Odd....during the same period (94 to 99) I ran an office with 4 engineers, 2 architects, 2 IT managers and 3 salespeople, along with 3 support staff. Getting people with the right training and skills was dreadfully easy, as engineers, draftsmen, IT managers, and other skilled, qualified labor were having a very difficult time finding work (at least in the midwest...Chicago, KC, Omaha, etc). Engineers were working as car salesmen to make ends meet, and if I wanted to I could have paid far far less than I did and found qualified personel. It was an employers market, BIG time. The three times I was forced to hire someone I had well over a hundred candidates for the job each time, with applicants coming from towns 60+ miles away.

One of the biggest reasons it was so hard to find good unskilled labor at the time is the difference in the workforce numbers for that segment. There were less kids in the workforce than in previous generations, so employers paid up. Also more kids stayed home to cruise the net or play games, where they used to work to earn money to buy a car or go to Europe.

And tax numbers from the IRS disagree with your assessment. There are less people now under the poverty level than there were during Clinton's administration according to the US treasury departments tax numbers.

Saying the heavier taxes contributed to better employment is ludicrous, as it did not.

If you are directing these comments towards me I must say that I never said that hight taxes contributed to better eomployment. What I said was that higher wages and lower unemployment did not come with folks who were working those jobs complaining about the higher taxes- if you care to debate my comments at least get my comments correct. no need to impute things not said...

    Thanks
