Hard to see a recession where I am.... or in Northern Europe..... And most countries here do adjust to globalization even if it is painful.....without whining too much.... because they cannot offer to themselves the luxury of refusing what anyway is already in the making if not made.... How long the USa would have the means to resist to globalization if they refuse it ?
If by that you mean the the increasing power and privileges of the transnational corporations and the il liberalism and elite social class that benefits from it the working class here will probably lose.

That doesn't mean we shouldn't resist it.

Well, that would be something they don't presently have then.

We’ve taken in far too many people and we’re letting them down badly – especially the children

The transnational corporations and the elite that own them are harming people.

    From your link

Managerial elites are bound to dominate the economy and society of every modern nation. But if they are not checked, they will overreach and produce a populist backlash in proportion to their excess. By a misguided policy of suppressing wages and thus throttling mass consumption, unchecked managerial elites may inadvertently cripple the technology-driven productivity growth responsible for their rise and accidentally cause the replacement of managerial society itself by a kind of high-tech rentier feudalism.
    That about sums it up.

...History demonstrates that ruling classes of any kind are reluctant to share power with the ruled unless they are afraid of the ruled or afraid of rival ruling classes. The former—fear of the ruled—is a weak motive. Popular revolts seldom turn into revolutions, without the support of dissident members of a ruling class or of a foreign elite, like the French monarchy that bankrolled and supported U.S. independence for its own purposes....

At what point will you shift blame to Trump or will you fail to do that until the end of time?
