Actually, it was just under $8 trillion. Most of the years with a high budget were early in his first term - and you can't fairly fault Obama for 2009 (deficit = +$1.16 trillion), given that the budget was signed by Bush. On the other hand, Obama WAS responsible for the 2017 budget (deficit = +$0.66 trillion).

    I challenge that claim:

The national debt went up $1.4 trillion in 2016.

Obama's 2017 budget wasn't passed by Congress, lucky for the national debt. Obama's budget called for $4.2 trillion in spending, Congress spent $3.65 trillion in 2017.

So GWB budgeted Obama's stimulus spending and tax cuts and Afghan surge?

Here's one for ya, national debt:

    1-20-2009 $10.626

    1-20-2017 $19.947

That's $9.321 Trillion added to the debt by Obama.

    That's per treasurydirect.gov

Twist and spin that information any way you want.

Looks like we are headed in the right direction.
Which again is a ridiculous comparison - by the time he left office, Obama literally had a growing economy compared to the shit show he was handed.

Comparing 2016 and 2017 is ridiculous?

This thread is not about whether the economy is/was growing or not.

    It is about national debt.

    THAT is the topic.

This is true; repairing an economy in freefall requires significant expenditures. And you can't argue with the results.
