    Amazon Top 20 List

Many know that Amazon is shopping around for a new headquarters. Recently they put out a Top 20 list. Kind of a cross between a 'make your last best offer' and Lebron's original free agency decision to go from Cleveland to Miami.

In any event, NJ offered Amazon a massive package which has kept Newark, NJ on that list.

    Nice bi-partisan effort too....

N.J. offered a $7B deal to Amazon. Is it worth it? | NJ.com

One article suggests that luring Amazon will have a positive impact of 50,000 jobs in the region. Of course, as Bastiat would say, that is which is seen.

Why should Amazon be treated more favorably than my (now former) business?

Of course, I personally wasn't going to employ 50,000+ right?

True, but here's the thing, 800,000 small businesses currently employ more than 1.7mn people in the State of NJ, accounting for more than 50% of all employment

At the end of the day you can't treat Amazon MORE favorably without treating others, at least relatively speaking, LESS favorably.

Corporate welfare, and that has to come from somewhere doesn't it? And if you're one of the 800,000 schnooks paying 56 cents off every dollar, fuck you, right?

This epitomizes everything that's wrong with this country.

We must hate all corporate entities, even if they benefit the people....

I will use them but fuck them, they are all evil.

They provide jobs and help economies but its more important to hate them, we don't want them here.

Success is a bad thing, we should punish them until they make no profit whatsoever.

Why are they wrong? Landing the Amazon 2nd headquarters brings a significant amount of jobs to an area. Incentives are paid over years and in tax savings.

Interesting perspective. Had honestly never thought about it from that angle.

In these parts, Chicago is also offering an impressive incentive package...

It's a gamble. Probably no city needs it more than Newark. If Cleveland had to lose, I'd be pleased to see Newark win.

If they do, they will see more small businesses, more consumers, more taxpayers....it might pay off for them.

There has been discussions regarding Amazon developing a warehouse operation in Baltimore. This would create employment opportunities that Baltimore desperately needs and Maryland residents would start paying State sales taxes on Amazon purchases.

They'd be better off creating business atmospheres where everyone can thrive.
