I used to do a lot of traveling and when I'd have a layover in Vegas I would go to the old Union Plaza and play the penny slots.

I think the big jackpot was about $50.

We hit a dollar machine in Reno back in the 80s for $800, the odds were advertised at something like 99% payout.

Too bad my stupid-ass friend put it all back into another machine, we ended up with enough money for breakfast.

Vegas had good deals on food ect, Reno, not so much.

Slots are the worst though, "one-armed bandit."

Las Vegas was also a lousy place for a kid to grow up, I'm glad we moved back to California eventually, the same greed that seeps into everything there infected the kids too!

The last time I was in Vegas I didn't gamble at all, had no desire to.

What they do with slots, is make it so the losing pulls are only a click or two of the wheels away from the jackpot... if the "wheels" spun only a split-second longer!

So, many people figure "almost, but not quite, just a few more pulls and it has to hit!" as though they were able to make some sort of "progress" towards it.

If they can manipulate the machine like that to goad you on, then that's just a little too much "control" for me!

note: before the "wheels" stop spinning, the machine knows if you have won or not, if not, it will feed you a certain percentage of "near misses" to keep you interested.

They have to pay on winning pulls, but what they do with losing pulls is I guess up for grabs.

9-6 refers to the rate at the full house/flush juncture. (you see 9-6, 9-5, 10-4...)

The most important tip here in "jacks or better" is that you go with low card pairs over face cards, which in this game all have the same ranking: jacks or better.

Say you have an ace, a king and a jack and a pair of threes, you want to hold the threes and discard the face cards, you want to hold any pair and discard all the rest.

But in checking reviews on my local casinos, the odds are terrible and the service is both surly and substandard.

And some are reluctant to pay, they are the proverbial sore loser.

I'm not really interested in playing against people, I just thought it might come in handy the next time I am passing through Vegas if ever again, the longer you play, the more free drinks you can put in ya'.

I also had some two pair and three of a kind in there before the long losing streak, I was just about to hang it up for the evening when I got the big hands.

I posted that originally because I wanted someone else to try the machine and see what kind of results they had, was the machine as good to them as it was to me? Is it just a pushover machine you'd never see in a casino?

You start out with 600 credits, so far I'm up to about 3800.

If they had a machine like that in a casino they'd have to put it in for calibration, lol.

I have played that one before, but it has been a long time. I play Gin against the computer,figured out they always keep or pick the low number cards because if you knock they are never holding high cards that count against them. They have several levels, right now I stick with the simple.

Mostly I stick with high paying slots or Slingo. You have to really concentrate on Slingo. My favorite.
