Its miles past what Obama did.

Oh yeah, he was too busy kissing their ass and apologizing for America.

You should be directing your thanks to President Xi Jinping. HE is the one who is dialing down the spooky trade war talk. Put simply, he is a far more reasonable man than Donald Trump.

I'll give Trump that much. He's a bull in a China shop. (Pun not intended) Sometimes that can work. I think he's sort of a one trick pony though. Negotiating business definitely seems like a place where he's far more comfortable too.

No. Its obvious though that Trump is better at business than he is at diplomacy. Good on him for taking action on China. He should use someone with international diplomacy and preferably military experience to deal with NK, empower them, and then stay out of the way.

I posted this from Wikipedia on another thread:

Donald Trump learned about the estate after unsuccessfully trying to purchase and combine two apartments in Palm Beach for his family. According to Trump, he offered the Post family $25 million for it, but they rejected it. Trump purchased the land between Mar-a-Lago and the ocean from Jack C. Massey, the former owner of KFC, for $2 million,[21] stating he intended to build a home that would block Mar-a-Lago's beach view. The threat caused interest in the property to decline, and Trump ended up getting the property for $7 million in 1985.[22][19] Trump then renovated the estate, adding a 20,000-square-foot (1,900 m2) ballroom.[20] The club also has five clay tennis courts and a waterfront pool.

In the early 1990s, Trump faced financial difficulties. While negotiating with his bankers, he promised to divide Mar-a-Lago into smaller properties, alarming Palm Beach residents; so the city council rejected his plan to do so. Trump instead turned the estate into a private club that—unlike other Palm Beach old money resorts like the Bath and Tennis Club and Everglades Club—accepted as members Jews, blacks, and, as one Everglades member said,[who?] "people who try to call attention to themselves".
Im posting it here because it offers a succinct description of trumps strategy for getting what he wants - im not sure one could call it negotiating, however.

He promised progress on areas that are U.S. priorities including opening China’s banking industry and boosting imports but didn’t address key irritants for Washington such as a requirement for foreign companies to work through joint ventures that require them to give technology to potential local competitors. Private sector analysts saw Xi’s speech as an overture to help end the biggest trade dispute since World War II. It has fueled fears the global economic recovery might be set back if other governments are prompted to raise their own import barriers.

Xi tried to position China as a defender of free trade and cooperation, despite its status as the most-closed major economy, in response to Trump’s “America first” calls for import restrictions and trade deals that are more favorable to the United States.

The dispute is likely to end “with a concession from China,” said Larry Hu of Macquarie Group in a report.

The stock market is having a positive day.

Very possibly in response to this news from China.

    Not sure about that.

Trump, with just a few words, can do more than even the most seasoned politician.

Whether he uses that correctly or not is yet to be seen.

I realize that Trump supporters think the man walks on water, but like all of us, he has things he is good at and things he is bad at. It makes little sense that you can take one thing he is good at and try to use it as a solution for everything. Trump's brash and provocative approach has brought China and Russia closer, alienated allies, and stoked tensions in a reckless way. If we end up going to war with NK, its going to be most likely because of his taunting. Don't be surprised also, if things go downhill between us and South Korea. They are probably pretty pissed at all the provoking he is doing, especially since they are gonna get the brunt of whatever results from it, not to mention his insulting their president with a pointless jab during the Olympics.

There's little doubt about that. Mr. Xi is dialing down the fears of a trade war, which had been roiling the markets for the past few weeks. If anything, I'm surprised the markets aren't up even more.

And, if it's true that he's going to lower tariffs on American products, including American cars...

Neither accomplished this without the other.

    Thanks Trump!
