The federal government is the legal mafia. Force you to pay for their protection. That's quite a racket.

I'm no proponent of anarchy, but I'm also not going to lie to myself about the nature of government.

Sometimes it's not because they are irresponsible, but just that they have no credit history.

The mob doesn't force you to live in their territory, either.

Great, still high risk. The USPS making high risk loans. What could go wrong?

It isn't a question of if the debtor defaults but when.
Not always. I was planning on doing one in an emergency. Being chatty as I am has advantages sometimes, babbling this to my bank teller who said they do 'payday' loans at much better rates. Pretty sure credit worthiness wasn't a factor. I didn't want to go through a traditional loan process for 1K.

And people who lack bank accounts, so they cash their checks there. That is part of what this is about. I have been in such places to use Western Union. Everything about them is not bad or shady. Whether I went there or Safeway grocery store had to do with which location was more convenient. The rates were the same.

Anyone who does a payday loan either can't get a credit card or a loan from a bank, or they really want to be screwed. The interest on those things are sky high. So is the default rate. In my state, Georgia, payday lending is illegal. We expanded predatory lending to cover it.
