I don't think I'd write the car off as a "Corvair" just yet.

Probably right. Some think Elon will end up being like Tucker back in the day, coming out with intriguing new designs but overall not a brand that will survive time. His recent outbursts and railing at the NTSB hasnt done him any favors either. His SpaceX program is by far more important and he seems to have a good handle on that.

Well the talk of 'moats' with Buffet here illistrates the second risk of Tesla. Namely what exactly os the value of a successful Tesla? Right now the market is pricing Tesla with future exoectations that are obviously quite grand. What if Tesla is.....say.....Chrysler in terms of unit volume?

Long emergency stopping distances, difficult to use controls, and a harsh ride stopped the Model 3 from getting a recommended buy from Consumer Reports.

The magazine said the car has exhilarating acceleration and handling, but it's stopping distance was worse than any modern car it has tested.

The Ford F-150 weighs about twice as much and stops seven feet shorter from 60 mph.

All the Model 3's controls are on a center touch screen with no gauges on the dashboard and few buttons inside the car. This forces drivers to take several steps to do simple tasks, and can cause driver distraction.

Car and Driver magazine also reported inconsistent and sometimes long stopping distances when it tested the Model 3.

And the Model 3 was going to be the car that saves the company...
I can hardly wait to get mine, but in waiting I hope to avoid many of the teething problems.

Frankly, I couldn't care less. I have no personal investment in Tesla.

Hasn't been confirmed that it was on autopilot, so more info needed. Just saw this headline yesterday and the thread reminded me of it.

Sounds like good news for Tesla, but it seems like a very quick fix for a major issue like brakes.

If I were a potential customer, I think I'd want to wait a year or more until the bugs get ironed out, before I purchased one.

    I think I trust CR.

Yes because those aren't nearly as advanced as cars.
