Sounds like good news for Tesla, but it seems like a very quick fix for a major issue like brakes.

If I were a potential customer, I think I'd want to wait a year or more until the bugs get ironed out, before I purchased one.

    I think I trust CR.

Long emergency stopping distances, difficult to use controls, and a harsh ride stopped the Model 3 from getting a recommended buy from Consumer Reports.

The magazine said the car has exhilarating acceleration and handling, but it's stopping distance was worse than any modern car it has tested.

The Ford F-150 weighs about twice as much and stops seven feet shorter from 60 mph.

All the Model 3's controls are on a center touch screen with no gauges on the dashboard and few buttons inside the car. This forces drivers to take several steps to do simple tasks, and can cause driver distraction.

Car and Driver magazine also reported inconsistent and sometimes long stopping distances when it tested the Model 3.

And the Model 3 was going to be the car that saves the company...
Modern life has become one big fat beta test imposed on us by our nerd overlords. Eventually they'll get the stuff they are fucking up now right, but by that time, there will be a whole bunch of other tech shit that doesn't work right.

Do we all really need all this crap?

    Of course not.

But, and this is the part that matters...lots of people THINK they do.

I know people who get the newest Apple phone every time a new one comes out.

    Why?

    Because they can.

It certainly makes one think. I saw that all cars sold in like 4 years will be mandated to have sensors, reverse cameras etc. All wonderful and good but how much does that drive up the cost of a car? They already are offering 6-10 year loans for new cars now. Its getting like a mortgage. If we ever go bust again economically its going to be bad.

Not only that, but what if your battery malfunctions? Same thing with letting Alexa do everything. The power goes out and you're worse off than you were before.

Besides, they never create useful features like the car telling you why it won't start. "Check engine" isn't a lot of information. Then you have to take it to the dealer to hook it up to another computer for diagnostics!

Every new "feature" they create is just one more thing that's going to eventually fail, AFAIC.

And I keep seeing these commercials for cars that stop by themselves. What if you don't want to stop? What if there's a tornado and you're trying to get away, but you can't because the car keeps stopping every time a piece of debris blows across the road? Not likely, but I have to wonder how sensitive these sensors are and if it's really practical for the car to come to a complete stop when there's an obstacle regardless of what it is.

    And GPS.

As wonderful as GPS is most of the time, I know young people who have never even tried to read a road map.

And they have no interest in trying...

I think touchscreens on vehicles are stupid. With knobs or buttons, you can feel what your are doing without looking away from the road. With a touchscreen, you have to look at the screen to see what your are doing.
