his response to Roseanne is proof positive that it was never about disrespecting the flag or the troops.

SOME cultural events are an industry. Some are even a MAJOR industry. Most are neither.

Lots of culture isn't even an "event."

Agree, but most Americans like their music, writing, acting or whatever else they do.

They don't care as much about their political beliefs or activism.

Some Americans certainly DO CARE, but most of us do not care much.

I know, they can get tremendous crowds fired up and call themselves "Nasty Women" and all that.

But, in the end, most Americans want those "cultural elites" to do what they do and we'll appreciate them for THAT.

Art has always been political. You might want for artists to express their politics through their art rather than through more direct, conventional means.

You really think that "Rent" or "Hamilton" aren't political? How about The Grapes of Wrath? Babbit?

Or that Renaissance art wasn't political?

How about Smokey and the Bandit?

But, OK, I get your point.

    Politics is in everything.

    I get it.

The same is true of religion.

    And lots of other stuff.

Honestly, this is a GOOD thing. Artists being able to "snub" a US President's White House invitation proves the US is still very much a functioning democracy, at least.

In Russia, for example, if you are summoned to perform at the Kremlin, there is no saying "nyet" to that, you just go, can't refuse, whatever other plans you may have had, they get put on hold and postponed. You don't piss off Putin, period...

And it's undoubtedly true in other countries, as well.

    N Korea comes to mind.

Lil Kim wants someone to perform, they'd best perform.

Or get sent to a "labor camp".

    Or worse.
    Thanks from The Man
