Maddie if you want, you can Skype my mum and holler at her. She keeps her UK passport and distrusts foreigners.

I cannot say cuss words to ladies or gentlemen older than me.

It's very inhibiting, I know, but there it is.

I signed up & posted, but the mods have to approve it.

I am Pinkie_Flamingo there, if anyone cares. If it ever shows up, this is my post:

I will - I will use my best received pronunciation complete with rounded vowels and cut-crystal consonents (but then I don't have much choice - do I).
    Thanks from Madeline and Amelia

I've been a bit baffled by all this, because I don't know what 'PH' is. I don't think there are any British sites worth the bother, or I'd not be here. People are not good on other people's accents, ever - the English talk about a 'Welsh' accent, when there are several, extremely different, and most British people perceive only a generalised 'American', though very informed ones may hear Deep South, and people with the right relatives may sometimes be able to distinguish Canadians. I was once in a pub with some American servicemen who challenged me to distinguish their accents. I got the first one - 'Sounds like New York', I said, 'but there's something underneath, Italian maybe'. He was impressed: 'Yes', said he, ''I'm a first-generation New York Italian'. The second gave me real trouble, and I just couldn't get it at all. He laughed 'Basically,' said he, ' I'm a Sioux Indian - we don't actually have red faces!' With the third, however, I had no problem at all - 'I can't give it a place on the map', I said, 'but it is absolutely standard American, could come from anywhere. Where do you come from?' 'Swansea', said he - 'been over there nearly five years now!' I leave such things to the experts now.

I think you may be right about British sites, but I signed on just to keep Madeline company. I don't really have the time to post on many sites.
    Thanks from Madeline
