this is a somewhat odd thread. very subjective. who can decide if any nation is fit to govern? who is in charge of that for the world? quite confusing.

Certainly odd. Its essentially an effort to try anti-Englishness without wit. Forgetting logic, its actually nationalism to pretend attack on nationalism.

What is odd is more over how irrational elements pollute any logical approach..... Nationalism is anyway a refusal to stand up aloneas a real individual..... With nationalism you have a ready made reaction, which prevent to address real issues... Nostalgy plays a similar role and cuts you off from reality and interaction with others.....

I've always felt that those governed should directly decide in what manner they are to be governed. that way, there is no built-in scapegoat to blame when things do not go as planned. how can you blame "government" when you are directly in control of it?

Why do yo transform this discussion here in a discussion about Bavaria vs Switzerland? Bavaria and Switzerland don't have any problems with each other. I just simple compared the situation of Ireland with Bavaria. I could also compare the situation of Bavaria with Kurds too for example. Or with Catalonia or ... or ... or

.....To give you a example of some différences between Catholic cantons and protestant ones
    Evil Catholics, holy Protestants?

there was 95% of the recruits who could read and write in my canton Waadt in 1820
    Wonderful.

because it was compusory to be able to read the Bible, when in Wallis which is Catolic 2/3 couldn't read or write....
So they had more time to do other things.

When industrialization started it made a big difference. It is why I can consider that Catholic cantons were left behind.... So look at that : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jCl6J7cb8Us and you will realize that there are some Alpine values we share with many others....
Aha. Who is able to read and write is holy - who is not able to read and write is not holy. Holy people industrialize the world and evil Catholics are left behind. By the way: Did you know that we had produced high tech swords for the Romans much more than a thousand years before Switzerland was industrialized from the Canton Waadt? And did you know that the Brits killed Irish people who played the Irish harp? Unfortunately that was not more than a thousand years in the past.

I knew it.....The people living in what part of France, Germany at tge time of Caesar, did master much better metallurgy than the Romans... And Europe was a place where many populations did move South for example.... The Wisigoths went to North Africa after leaving the EAst...

I recognize that and the irony of us fighting for our own Independence . Brussels is absolute power by Corporate which has destroyed all of our local businesses and cultures, all of our Institutions are now corrupted and morfed into vassals of the EU ---- they all look the same as they were they all have the same name but ---------- they are in fact gone. True that most of our own politicos are owned by corporate now but at least they are accountable to us -

I voted the same way in both referendums so nothing said in the last one made any difference to me and many others who saw first hand how destructive the EU is.

Can you give me a concrete example what the EU destroys in GB?
