Berlin Ghetto-izes Women Fearful Of Sexual Assault

BERLIN — As thousands celebrate New Year's Eve at Berlin's iconic Brandenburg Gate on Sunday night, a team of medical professionals in a white tent only yards away will be standing by, waiting for possible victims of sexual assault and harassment to seek their help.

After mass sexual assaults occurred on New Year's Eve in several German cities two years ago, Berlin officials now work on the assumption that prevention efforts alone may no longer be sufficient at such large-scale events.

Note: Dafuq? Why not? Doesn't Germany have a National Guard? An Army?

Women will be able to speak to psychologists immediately after being assaulted or harassed in a “safe zone” at the Berlin New Year's Eve event.

Note: My head aspolded as I read this. The German police plan to be nice to victims of sexual assault, rather than to protect these women BEFORE they are attacked.

While the presence of medical professionals and police officers at crowded event sites is nothing new, it is the first time such a dedicated area with experienced staffers will be set up in Berlin, and the first time that such an effort is being undertaken on New Year's Eve in Germany.

"[Assaulted women] can stay here and calm down or speak to someone trained to offer psychological support,” said Anja Marx, the spokeswoman of Berlin's main New Year's Eve celebrations. Up to five members of a German Red Cross team will be available to offer immediate support to victims.

Note: Fuck the Red Cross. Where is the Human Rights Commission?

On New Year's Eve 2015, about 1,200 women became victims of sexual assault in several major German cities, with more than 600 women attacked in Cologne and about 400 victims in the northern German city of Hamburg. Prosecutors established that more than 2,000 men were involved in the assaults, but only a tiny fraction — about half of them foreign nationals who at the time had only recently arrived in the country — had been identified a year later.

It took months for the full scale of the 2015 assaults to emerge, but when prosecutors released their final estimates, Germans' attitude toward refugees changed dramatically: To many, New Year's Eve 2015 is the night Germany's welcoming attitude toward newcomers ended. Leading politicians called for tougher deportation laws soon thereafter.

Note: Great, fine, whatevs. But where are the prosecutions of high ranking police officers for dereliction of duty? It isn't as if this crime wave was shocking or unforeseeable -- it was/is INEVITABLE.

Far fewer cases of sexual assault were registered last year after authorities sent out thousands of additional police officers onto the streets and banned the use of fireworks in several locations. Privately purchased fireworks can create intense smoke, potentially hindering police operations to prevent or stop sexual assaults and other crimes.

Note: Imagine that. An adequate police response restored law and order. Yet they still don't get it.

    *Facepalm*

Germany's parliament also passed stricter sexual assault laws last year that addressed complaints that German codes had been too lax. Previously, prosecutors had to prove that alleged perpetrators used force or made threats. Most of the alleged perpetrators responsible for the 2015 New Year's Eve assaults stood accused of offenses such as facilitating sex assaults as part of a group or groping, accusations that were difficult to prosecute under the old laws.

Note: That's great. Did the Deutscher Bundestag also fund the VASTLY increased levels of police staffing and activity needed to protect German females?

This year, authorities have doubled down on efforts to not only prosecute but also prevent assaults. Apart from an increased police presence, authorities have installed more CCTV cameras and streetlights across major cities.

Note: NOW they are installing CCTV? They didn't think to do this 40 years ago?

Far fewer sexual assaults occurred in Berlin during the 2015 celebrations than in other cities, partially due to the experience Berlin authorities have in dealing with crowds.

Note: So, clearly, German police CAN protect most/more German women, if they choose to do so.

Still, authorities there have taken more preventative measures since, this year adding the safe zone. A similar effort was made at the rowdy Oktoberfest celebration in the German capital.

Note: So, women who are not willing to remain in this "safe zone" AKA a pink ghetto are fair game?

However, Berlin's safe zone has come under some criticism. The chairman of Germany's police union, Rainer Wendt, criticized Berlin's planned safe zone for women in an interview with a German newspaper this week, saying: “Whoever came up with this idea did not understand its political dimension. It implies that there are zones of security as well as zones of insecurity.”

Wendt's criticism was shared by others who believe that the introduction of women's safe zones would essentially come close to accepting sexual violence as a reality of life, and that it could lead to the “end of equality, freedom and self-determination,” in Germany, as Wendt phrased it.

Note: NO SHIT. Is there any other way to view this?

But experts on sexual assault prevention disagree with that assessment.

Note: Who dafuq are these "experts"? Crime prevention is a police science matter, not a philosophy class.

“Germany’s efforts are a step in the right direction — they counter the expectation that sexual violence should be treated as a private problem, not a public concern,” said Rachel Davis, managing director at the Prevention Institute in Oakland, Calif., even though she emphasized that “more can be done to prevent it in the first place.”

“It’s also important to counter the promotion of other norms, such as rigid gender norms that associate masculinity with control and femininity with compliance, acceptance of abuse of power over others, and acceptance of aggression and violence,” said Davis.

Note: This Davis broad sounds like a hipster shit-for-brains. OBVIOUSLY there are cultural norms involved in sexual assaults that need to be addressed, but that should never hobble the police.

If you called me and said 1,001 women will be raped tonight in Cleveland's Public Square, and I was physically able, I would not be going there with tea and sympathy for the anticipated victims. I'd be going with an assault rifle, looking to make citizen's arrests of men, alone or in groups, who appeared to be harassing women.

Germans! Of all the humans on God's earth to fuck up law and order, I would have expected them to be the last.

Hey Germany -- quit looking the other way whilst females are attacked in your cities!

Yeah. The UN needs to send in the Human Rights commission. Maybe that'll get Germany's head out of their ass. Humiliate in front of the world. This is absurd.

My thoughts are that the girl in the pic looks like a younger version of one of my best friends.... and she'd punch a fucker in the throat.

The normal, usual Red Cross station, annually provided there to give aid to people who become ill or get injured participating in drunken rowdy New Year celebrations will have psychologists on hand as well as the routine first aiders. It's such a big deal.
    And not a "safe zone"

I am not angry at the Red Cross, sir. I am angry at the German politicians and police. You'd think German men would be at least as protective of women and children as their dogs are.

It is 100% wrong to demand German women tolerate this onslaught of crime.

So the Republican President, the "bleed from whatever" boy, is the great protector of women now?

Yeah, and the physically challenged, too.

There will be more sexual assaults in New York Tines Square tonight than in all of Germany and Sweden combined. And that is fact. There’s has been all of our lives. There will be next year and the year after.

Dangermouse tried to inject some common sense and was roundly ignored, as I will be too.

Americans simply MUST learn how to recognize tabloid news. This is disgraceful.

I would be humiliated if I fell for stuff like this. How fucking easily manipulated can anyone be?

Fine. I'll say it. They know what the problem is.
More than 100 women and girls have come forward with reports of sexual assault and robbery by gangs of men in the German city of Cologne on New Year's Eve.

Victims have described chaos outside the city's main station, as the men carried out dozens of attacks with little apparent response from the authorities.

Correspondents say the identification of the attackers as North African or Arab in appearance has caused alarm in Germany because of the influx of more than a million migrants and refugees in the past year.
Cologne sex attacks: Women describe 'terrible' assaults - BBC News
Germany absorbed a million immigrants from cultures that tell them women are lesser than men and that they can do whatever they want to women. They didn't bother to screen them before taking them in and they aren't trying to assimilate these men to teach them not to act like animals.
