    Brown Signs Mandatory Vaccinations Bill

One of the toughest vaccination laws in the nation was signed by California governor Jerry Brown. This bill requires school children to be vaccinated in order to attend school (vaccination against measles, pertussis, influenza). There are no religious or personal belief exemptions permitted. California's law joins Mississippi and W. Virginia as among the toughest vaccination standards in the country.

My opinion is that the California bill is sound public health policy.

Adopting one of the most far-reaching vaccination laws in the nation, California on Tuesday barred religious and other personal-belief exemptions for schoolchildren, a move that could affect tens of thousands of students and sets up a potential court battle with opponents of immunization.

California’s weakened public health defenses against measles and other preventable diseases led to the adoption of the measure, signed Tuesday by Gov. Jerry Brown, intended to stem the rising number of parents who opt not to inoculate their children.

Public health officials said a proliferation of waivers, many sought because of unfounded concerns about the safety of vaccines, helped fuel a measles outbreak that started at Disneyland in December and quickly spread across the West, infecting 150 people.

As I understand it, all schools must abide by this law except home schooling.

All students attending California K12 public schools must be vaccinated for measles, pertussis and flu. The only exemption is for medical reasons, not religious or personal beliefs.

    Seems reasonable risk management.

Even if they're successful, there just aren't very many people opposed to vaccination on religious grounds. I found an interesting article about it. A review of religion and vaccinations ? Skeptical Raptor
Dutch Reformed and a way out of the mainstream ultra Orthodox Jewish sect. You might be thinking Christian Scientists, but they don't actually prohibit vaccination. Misinformation because of pseudo-science is a far bigger problem than religious doctrine.
