Anybody here become irritable on a statin drug?

I had fits of rage over minor things (never at others) like dropping things, or things that are normally minor stress in my line of work. It may or may not be a coincidence but it seems to have started about the time I started taking a generic version of lipitor which is Atorvastatin. And my blood pressure went up about that time. So I started taking a blood pressure med soon after that which is Atenolol.

My doctor has me off of the statin drug to see if that's it and it seems I am better but still irritable but no where near as much. Could be psychological too.

Could be be the Atenolol too although the drug is actually used to calm people down other than for blood pressure. However my doctor says sometimes drugs have an opposite effect in some people.

    Thoughts?

Now I'm dealing with GERD for some reason. I stopped drinking coffee and carbonated drinks but it's lingering.

    I'm on a statin ... no problems.

Could be that it interacts poorly with something else you take.

I have been on Atenolol for years and it works extremely well. When my heart starts racing I pop one and yes it does calm your heart down but you don't get a euphoria feeling like a narcotic gives you. I will be on this drug the rest of my life, as pretty much my whole family is. The only other drugs I take are Valium or Xanax if I need to take a flight somewhere or do something I really don't like to do. I just go and get small scripts for that one thing.

My husband takes Atorvastatin. A couple of years ago, when he first started taking it, he had a bad reaction to it. It affected him neurologically. He ended up in the hospital for almost a week while they tried to figure out what the problem was. They finally decided to cut his dosage in half and he's been pretty good since then. He still has balance issues, but because he has heart disease they feel he needs to stay on it. He can be ornery, too. Not sure if that is the cause or not, though.

It's that way with me but that predates my usage of statins so......

There's always cigarettes. Yeah I know too dangerous, but prescribed drugs aren't exactly perfect either.

Used to have rage issues long ago. Celexa (Citalopram) was prescribed and has done a nice job of mitigating that.

Have been on atorvastatin for the last few years without any noticeable problems.

Assume you take your statin in the evenings? Consider taking a mood enhancer in the morning to balance things out. Better living through chemicals.

Are you male or female? The effectiveness of taking a statin to prevent 1st heart attacks in women has not been proven. Look up the studies and then ask yourself, if you are a woman, if it is even worth taking if that is what you are hoping it will avoid?
