Safety is an area where the workers should of rose up. Company heads should get nailed for putting their workers at risk.

Wouldn't that require them to unionize? You know...that thing you hate.
    Thanks from Hollywood

They are already unionized...but in all Unions, the one who signs your paycheck has the most authority. It would not have done any good. The United Mine Workers was a very powerful union until the lay offs started...now they are weak. Same with the auto companies. The unions cannot stop a company from moving overseas or closing up shop.

Why do you need a union to report safety problems? If the company violated laws & regulations you have other authority to appeal to.

*sigh* - I'm seriously sorry that you don't understand what happens when powerless people report a problem to their employer. I just can't.

Unions served a valid purpose many decades ago. Now there are multitudes of laws and regulations and govt agencies to over see work environments. People likely want unions to squeeze more $$ and benefits out of the company, until the company see's better opportunities in another state or country.

OSHA, EPA, news media, government authority. If it's a safety, health, pollution issue, there is authority that will listen. Unless the the entire system is corrupt. You think unions are saviors? Many of them are corrupt.

I lived in the Appalachian mountain area for three years. The education in many of these towns is so poor, mining is the only thing these people are able to do. It is difficult to convince some of these people that there is anything better. Too many of these poor people are controlled by their local churches.

The laws and regulations that Trump is anxious to dispose of, so the U.S. can be more "business friendly?"
What do you think people like Trump mean when they say that?
Trump would LOVE to gut OSHA and the EPA. Hell, the man he put in charge of the EPA pretty much intends to do just that.

Trump's and Ryan's Health Care plan will take care of all those Trump voters. The coal mine jobs are coming back and Trump's Health Care Plan will cost less and have lower deductibles and cover more medical services than ObamaCare. Hope that comforts them. Trump has been a man of his word and he has kept every single promise and vow his whole life. Now, I hope this comforts those people that are sick and dying. Trump is gonna come through. In the meanwhile have a nice ice cold glass of tap water while they wait.
