And how do you propose addressing the mental problems? What course of treatment would you suggest?

There are also those that experience anxiety with choosing to have surgery or not that has nothing to do with transgenderism.

And of course the anxiety LGBT face from external forces like you mentioned.
When I said they are misfits in our society I didn't mean they had psychological problems...but the reality is how they are viewed and often treated.

They refuse to accept we're all God's children. Christians, my ass.
They pick and choose from the Bible.. they forgive the sins that they commit, but condone the sins they don't

Hormonal therapy and sex reassignment: a systematic review and meta-analysis of quality of life and psychosocial outcomes - Murad - 2009 - Clinical Endocrinology - Wiley Online Library

    Summary

Objective  To assess the prognosis of individuals with gender identity disorder (GID) receiving hormonal therapy as a part of sex reassignment in terms of quality of life and other self-reported psychosocial outcomes.

Methods  We searched electronic databases, bibliography of included studies and expert files. All study designs were included with no language restrictions. Reviewers working independently and in pairs selected studies using predetermined inclusion and exclusion criteria, extracted outcome and quality data. We used a random-effects meta-analysis to pool proportions and estimate the 95% confidence intervals (CIs). We estimated the proportion of between-study heterogeneity not attributable to chance using the I2 statistic.

Results  We identified 28 eligible studies. These studies enrolled 1833 participants with GID (1093 male-to-female, 801 female-to-male) who underwent sex reassignment that included hormonal therapies. All the studies were observational and most lacked controls. Pooling across studies shows that after sex reassignment, 80% of individuals with GID reported significant improvement in gender dysphoria (95% CI = 68–89%; 8 studies; I2 = 82%); 78% reported significant improvement in psychological symptoms (95% CI = 56–94%; 7 studies; I2 = 86%); 80% reported significant improvement in quality of life (95% CI = 72–88%; 16 studies; I2 = 78%); and 72% reported significant improvement in sexual function (95% CI = 60–81%; 15 studies; I2 = 78%).

Conclusions  Very low quality evidence suggests that sex reassignment that includes hormonal interventions in individuals with GID likely improves gender dysphoria, psychological functioning and comorbidities, sexual function and overall quality of life.
Still not enough empirical data to come to any conclusion. One thing for sure is that I'm glad I'm not gender dysphoric because it sounds like torture.

I would think its a problem that still exists and one we should be concerned about.

But as the article states, people such as yourself refuse to talk about the negative aspects of this surgery, you prefer to sweep it under the rug and pretend it doesn't exist while many of these people suffer every day.

    Very sad.

Of course there is high rate of depression and suicide about TB people because they are still vilified Just take look at any TG thread here. Like this one.

And unless you at TG person or know someone who is, your not qualified to comment to comment on a surgery you will never have.

Go to a psychiatrist. The problem is mental illness not their gender

A lengthy psychological program before someone undertakes this surgery.

I believe that before women get bariatric surgery they have to be passed by a shrink before it can happen.

Obviously there should be age restrictions also.

So none of it has to do with regret over their decision?

You are the one this article is talking about, people who refuse to believe that TG's will ever regret their decision so you deny, deny, deny its a problem while it gets worse.

    Shameful.

    Now your just trolling again.

Your outdated study and 3 year right wing blog post aside, there is no substantial evidence that most TG people regret having the surgery.

It's a complicated issue and for you to make it seem so simple is a testimony to unformed you seem about this topic.

I would contend that it is not possible to change someone's sex at this point. You cannot change a person's chromosome structure yet so all of these surgeries are only band-aids to a bigger problem, not a solution.

But whatever, if that's what makes you happy, have all the surgery you need to.
