The Civil War was not just about slavery, it was about a part of the nation dictating to the other.

It represents our freedom and that we will fight to the death against tyranny.

Lee was a great general, the soldiers were brothers (in many cases) of those they were fighting against.

The Flag was a battle flag, not a support of slavery.

That war was a defining point in our history, in a way it tells people what an American is.

Too remove that from out history is just wrong.
    Thanks from Puzzling Evidence

The last president who ever owned slaves was, ironically, Ulysses S. Grant, elected in 1868 after he had commanded Union forces to victory over the Confederacy in the war that led to the abolition of slavery. Grant owned a slave named William Jones, whom he freed in 1859.

Someone want to tell me what all this has to do with a National Health Care program?

It does not matter in the least what that flag represented 150 years ago.
It's what it is used by many to represent NOW that is important.
100 years ago the swastika was a symbol of good luck in many cultures and had been for at least 2,000 years. Hitler and the Nazi's kind of fucked that up.
NOW what do people think when they see someone with a swastika tattoo or a Nazi flag?

    Let me get my crayons.

Using TR as an example from an antiquated time period isn't relevant to today.

    Think you can get that?

For the love of God, you truly clueless.
The issue is the concept, the idea, of a national healthcare system and for how long it has been advocated in America.
The mention of T.R. is just a time marker, to show how long it has been discussed/considered at high levels of government.

We have discussed many things at high level of government since our history.

    Are they all valid?

What in the fuck does that have to do with my comment insofar as it is a response to a comment YOU made?
