    Hearing Aid Bill

Knowing many Seniors who pay up to $6000 for hearing aids, this bill has not been noticed. The profit in these things is enormous. Even with Insurance they pay more out of pocket. Clair's McCaskill mentioned it in a Town Hall.

It sounds like the bill is good, right? Do you wear hearing aids? I do. Right now, my hearing aids are prescription and therefore covered by my insurance. What happens when they go OTC? Oh right, no longer covered by insurance. This same thing happened to prescription medications for allergies, like Allegra D. OTC isn't covered by insurance. My hearing aids run about $3,000.

My insurance does not cover hearing aids.

Most insurance now covers Hearing Aids. Many just started in the last few years. But the rules are confusing, set to change next year.

Many now run around $6000 for two.

I sited that a friend just received 2 from the VA. They paid $6000 for them.

Much like my Dental implants. Range from $1500 for one tooth,up to $10,000.

I am not sure how this OTC works. But was told the bill was a Warren bill. Was also told by this Professional they would not be covered by the FDA, but this article said it will.

    SD,it was bi Partisan.

I know many are making big money, have been for years. Older people with hearing loss are desperate.

There are two sides. In this. The reason I brought this subject up. Not all have Insurance.for discussion on both sides.

Are you saying,SD,you have a copay,or insurance pays it all?

A young girl at the Y cannot hear at all.it is more common than people think.

I have two healthcare insurance plans (United Heathcare and Humana Tricare). Between the two of them they work out the costs. I think I pay $40 for the specialist visit.

If hearing aids become OTC they will not be covered under insurance. Yes, the price will come down as cheaper hearing aids are made by generic companies but they wonít be covered by insurance. This happened with allergy medicines.

I think it depends on the severity of hearing loss. Cochlear transplants are paid for. Until recently many Insuranc e companies did not.

We have such a hodgepodge Of Insurance companies,Government plans,it is hard for the average person to keep up.

I never paid much attention, but when told it was a Warren bill, then finding it was bi-Partisan began to check.

Until yesterday I never knew it was a bill.

Can we,for once, not make this in political terms? After reading,it seems only good for those with mild or moderate hearing loss.

I talked with a woman who had the implant. She said it only restores 80%,is very big and bulky. I wonder if they have changed the way Aids have?

Seeing those babies hear for the first time is wonderful.

I havenít mentioned political parties once. If hearing aids go OTC then people, like me who get them through their insurance will have to pay for them. I may not have to pay for mine as it is a service connected disability but most people will.
